'The Hill' reports that people in the United States
pay significantly higher prices for weight loss
medications like Ozempic, Wegovy and Mounjaro. .
According to an analysis from KFF,
compared to other wealthy nations, the list
price is up to 10 times lower in some countries. .
Ozempic, which is primarily a diabetes medication
but is also prescribed for weight loss, has a list
price of $963 in the U.S. for a one-month supply.
The KFF analysis found that among the nine
other countries they looked at, none paid
over $200 for the same one-month supply. .
For a one-month supply of Rybelsus,
which contains the same drug
as Ozempic, it is $936 in the U.S. .
The next-highest paying country
was the Netherlands, where the same
one-month supply costs only $203.
'The Hill' reports that the other countries included in
the study were Switzerland, Canada, Japan, Sweden,
Australia, Germany, France and the United Kingdom.
What impact these drugs have on total
health costs in a country will depend
not just on the net prices for the drugs,
but also on how many people use them, KFF analysis, via 'The Hill'.
