'Blue Beetle' director calls DC film a 'love letter to ancestors'

Director Ángel Manuel Soto and Mexican screenwriter Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer collaborates on DC's "Blue Beetle," starring Xolo Maridueña as Jaime Reyes, the first Latino superhero. The film is culturally rich, reflecting both Soto and Dunnet-Alcocer's backgrounds. In the movie, Reyes becomes a superhero by bonding with an ancient scarab called Khaji Da, which is made of alien biotechnology. Soto is promoting the film solo due to ongoing Hollywood strikes restricting promotional activities under contracts.
