A wildfire that ignited within a mountainous national park on the Spanish island of Tenerife on Wednesday has now rapidly expanded. The fire has grown to cover an area of 1,800 hectares within a span of just 24 hours. The blaze has now extended across 22 kilometers of dry woodland, engulfing both sides of Mount Teide, Spain's tallest peak. Access to this region has now been affected. Several villages have already been evacuated as a precaution because of thick smoke. Local authorities have cut off roads leading to the mountains on the northeastern part of the island. But concerns have been raised because the fire is spreading.
