How Bhagavad Gita Helped Sharad Kumar Win Tokyo Paralympics High Jump Medal

A knee injury almost derailed his Tokyo Paralympics campaign but Sharad Kumar, who won a high jump bronze at the 2020 Summer Games on Tuesday (August 31), found belief and new energy by reading the Bhagavad Gita to overcome anxiety and a painful knee. Twenty-nine-year-old Sharad Kumar is a Masters degree holder in International Relations from Delhi's Jawaharlal Nehru University. Kumar, also a Sports Authority of India coach, had trained for three years in Ukraine from 2017 to prepare for the Paralympics. When he was two years old, Sharad Kumar lost his left leg by taking spurious polio drugs.
