'We took the England skipper out of England!': Gloating Thomas Tuchel cannot hide his delight at signing Harry Kane before England captain makes Bayern debut

Thomas Tuchel was unable to hide the smile on his face when he was quizzed about Bayern Munich's £100million signing of Harry Kane on Saturday.

The Bundesliga champions wrapped up the signing of the Tottenham striker on the morning of their German Super Cup fixture against RB Leipzig, which they lost 3-0.

Kane started on the bench as Bayern were handed the brutal thrashing by their Bundesliga rivals ahead of the start of the league season next weekend.

The England captain was brought on by Tuchel in the 63rd minute of the game at the Allianz Arena and was unable to collect the first silverware of his career.

Tuchel seemed satisfied enough with his new signing ahead of kick-off.

He told beIN SPORTS: 'We took the England skipper out of England to the German league!

'It is a huge achievement for everybody who worked on the transfer.'

The former Chelsea boss appeared to be barely able to believe his luck throughout the short pre-match interview.

Given Kane arrives in Germany having scored 213 Premier League goals, it is perhaps no surprise that his new manager is excited at the prospect of what he could achieve at Bayern.

Tuchel was quick to identify the characteristics that meant signing Kane was a no-brainer for the Bundesliga giants.

He said: 'We have a very strong no 9, a huge personality, a top guy.

'[It is a] Big signing for the club and a big statement in Europe.'

Kane will have to wait longer to secure the first trophy of his career though.

His new team-mates were already 2-0 down by the time he stepped onto the pitch as a Bayern player for the first time.

A Dani Olmo hat-trick meant it was Leipzig who took home the silverware, and the Spanish midfielder's third goal of the evening arrived from the penalty spot just five minutes after Kane had come on.

Bayern begins the defense of their Bundesliga title with a trip to Werder Bremen on Friday, August 18.
