00:00 back in session. That means there are going to be some crazy school schedules going on
00:04 and here to help feed the family with all that is managed mom Rachel Harris. How are
00:09 you miss Rachel? I am wonderful. How are you Brad? You know I am very good because you
00:13 know what I get to do what you get to do. No well no what we get to do together is sit
00:19 on the sidelines and watch all those parents go crazy because our kids are not at home
00:23 anymore because we've been there done that we've been there and done that but you know
00:26 what's kind of interesting did you do something like this did you prepare food like this?
00:30 I did. I did little notes in the lunch box the whole nine yards I'm still sort of in
00:34 there because my daughter is about to start her senior year of college last first day
00:38 coming my way. So are you still sending her little notes and stuff? Oh yeah I do all that
00:41 fun stuff. Oh that's so nice. Yeah it's good stuff. Well this is really cool because you've
00:44 teamed up with someone to give us some nice bready little dishes for us. Some good stuff
00:50 so my blog managedmoms.com has teamed up with La Brea Bakery to bring you some sunrise to
00:57 sunset back to school ideas using the common denominator the star of the show the La Brea
01:02 Bakery bread Brad. There you go from the baguettes to the round bread. Let's do it. Which I love
01:07 so alright where do you want to start? Okay so I loved it because right before we went
01:11 on camera you said oh they have a whole grain bread. Yeah. Yes isn't that great so the La
01:15 Brea Bakery whole grain loaf is what we're using for our first idea which is breakfast
01:21 and I call this the strawberry bread spread breakfast idea and basically we took a piece
01:25 of that bread we toasted it we did some cream cheese and some sliced strawberries and Brad
01:32 I'm gonna have you finish it off for me. Do I? Okay. I'm gonna have you grab a little
01:35 coconut. Okay just a little bit of coconut. Yeah and you can lay the bread down if you
01:39 need to you're gonna sprinkle. Oh I like this he's got the chef's touch. So sprinkle that
01:44 coconut on there and you know what the kids can help you do this and when the kids help
01:49 guess what they're more likely to eat it. Parenting tip right there. Beautiful I think
01:54 it's gorgeous gorgeous and then we paired that with some eggs for protein and we cut
01:59 up some watermelon into stars my food stylist Julie McMillan did that for me. Oh I like
02:04 that. And the thing about that is watermelon is hydrating. Yes. And here in the valley
02:09 you want to give them hydrating food. I like it. Alright let's talk about the lunch. Yes.
02:14 You know my kids loved it when I would send them off with a packed lunch. Look at this
02:17 cute little lunch box I found and you for this we use the La Brea bakery French loaf.
02:23 I'm calling this the Go Bananas Mama's Memory Sandwich because this is a sandwich my mom
02:28 used to make for me. Yes. Peanut butter, honey, and banana. There you go. Did your mom make
02:33 that for you? No. No? What did your mom make you? Bologna. Bologna. Bologna. Can we see
02:37 it? You wanna see it? Oh we're gonna tilt it up thank you Stu. Tilt it up there we go.
02:40 Kids love to know what their parents were like and what they did as kids. So it's fun
02:46 to do that. We got some goldfish in there, carrots. I always put in Hershey's Kisses
02:49 with a little note a kiss for mom and dad. And then I think you would like this because
02:53 you're a comedian. It's a little book of riddles and rhymes. I bought that over at Target.
02:58 I knocked it over so it would set it up so we could see it. I would put that in the lunch
03:01 as well. Super fun stuff to do. I also want to mention something that's so important here
03:06 and this is the lunch little box here. You know why this is so important right now? Tell
03:11 me. You know why? Why? It's not folding down. So I understand at school now the kids can't
03:16 have these boxes that fold down because there's not room on the tables. So if they go just
03:21 half way that's allowed. So this is very smart of you. That's a good tip. Thank you. So there
03:26 you go they can't fold all the way down they just have to go half way so they can put more
03:29 kids dishes on there. And that's like the bento box. Yeah the bento box. We love that.
03:34 Alright let's move on to the after school snack. If you give your kid this after school
03:38 snack all the friends are going to come over because it's so unique and cool. It's little
03:42 mini kid friendly charcuterie boards. Look at that. And my food stylist Julie found this
03:47 one over at Target. They're so little and cute. Isn't that fun? Yeah I love it. I love
03:53 that. The shapes and everything cut out of there. I know the shapes of the cheese. So
03:57 here's what you do for this. You take the La Brea bakery french baguette. You cut it
04:02 up into little squares and you dip it in hummus because hummus is healthy. It is. Yes please.
04:09 And how do you say baguette in French? I have no idea but we're going to try baguette. There
04:14 you go. Did I do it right? I don't think I did but you know what it's good enough. It's
04:18 good enough. You went there. I thought you knew all the language for bread. I'm still
04:22 on cloud nine about that too. But this bread is as good as the bread in France as well.
04:27 I've got to tell you. I'm going to tell you. And then also we threw some veggies and fruit
04:30 on there so you can get the healthy foods in them as well. I love it. Alright last but
04:34 not least, dinner time. And you know what? They've got dinner. Then they normally have
04:37 practice or auditions or tutoring. Whatever it is. So you want it kid friendly, quick
04:42 and simple. So this is the kid friendly Dunkin Fun grilled cheese sandwich. For this we
04:47 used the La Brea bakery Italian round. We melted cheese on it but here's the surprise
04:52 ingredient. You ready? Potato chips. We put potato chips in there. And then melted it
04:58 together. And we did. And we went you know baked potato chips. So it's a little bit better
05:03 there. And then what they can do is they can dunk it in the tomato soup. So dunk and fun.
05:09 See? And if it's fun, it's more likely they're going to eat it and they're going to clean
05:14 their plate. I love it. Okay let me also give a little tip about the bread. Okay I want
05:18 to hear it. So this is the thing. The bread never goes bad. You never will waste any of
05:21 it because actually after a couple days it still stays nice and fresh somehow when you
05:26 wrap it up right. And then you can take it, chop it up and mix it into of course your
05:31 hamburgers or your meatloaf. Oh my gosh Brad that is a perfect tip. Thank you. You're right.
05:37 Thank you. And you know what? Speaking of great recipe ideas. Yes. If you go to labreabakery.com
05:43 check out their recipe section because they've got the back to school stuff but they've got
05:46 lots of recipes for the grown ups too paired with beers and wine. You've got to check it
05:51 out. And you can get all the breads at Fry's and also if you go to labreabakery.com to
05:56 the store locator you'll find the store closest to you like Safeway. There you go and you
05:59 can of course find Rachel at Manage Mom online. So thank you very much.
