Police officers and firefighters joined forces to rescue a kitten that was trapped inside a concrete wall.

Emergency crews were called to the scene by the kitten's owner after he noticed his pet cat had become stuck inside a cinder block.

Footage recorded at the owner's home in West Manatee county, Florida shows a fire rescue crew trying to get the kitten out by hand before breaking the wall open with a shovel.

A representative for Manatee County sheriff's department said: "The kitten was there long enough that its owners were trying to get it out."

It is not certain how long the kitten had been stuck in the wall but it had become very distressed.

The rescue effort took a little over an hour.

The representative added: "The kitten was fine. It was healthy and was returned to its owners.

"You can hear one of the fire rescue saying that it seems happy as a joke. It was pretty angry and shaken up."
