How 'Trump Made Me Do It' Becomes a Legal Battle in Capitol Riot Trials
  • 9 months ago
Over 1,100 people have already been charged for their actions during the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot, and many of them have invoked former President Donald Trump's name in their cases. A key moment was when Trump tweeted about a protest in DC on January 6, stating it would be "wild." Following this tweet, individuals made plans to come to D.C., with some indicating they would storm the Capitol if Trump told them to do so. On the day of the riot, when Trump said people should march to the Capitol, some individuals listened and ended up storming the building. Special Counsel Jack Smith appears to be on the verge of possibly indicting Trump for alleged crimes related to the attempt to overturn the 2020 election results. The potential charges against Trump seem to be focused on his efforts and those of his allies to overturn the election through various means, such as pressuring state election officials and Vice President Pence.
