Trump's PAC Spends Staggering $40 Million on Legal Costs
  • 9 months ago
Former president Donald Trump's political group, Save America, spent over $40 million on legal costs in the first half of 2023 to defend Trump, his advisers, and others. The legal expenses have drawn scrutiny from prosecutors due to potential conflicts of interest between Trump and witnesses involved in ongoing investigations. The PAC's fundraising and creation are also under investigation, as much of the money used to pay legal bills was raised based on false claims about the 2020 election being stolen. The post-presidential legal spending is expected to reach about $56 million as Trump faces a federal indictment in Florida, state charges in New York, and the possibility of further criminal indictments in Washington and Fulton County, Georgia. Prosecutors have questioned who is paying for witnesses' lawyers and why. Trump's advisers have stated that the PAC is covering the legal bills for anyone involved in the investigations who requests help from the former president and his advisers.
