11.6 Inch Touch Screen, 7 Seats Option, 5000 Pound Towing capacity, New Subaru ASCENT SUV 2024

2024 Subaru Ascent
Starting at $35,490

The Subaru Ascent plays in the crowded mid-size three-row crossover segment, facing popular vehicles such as the Kia Telluride, Hyundai Palisade and Ford Explorer, as well as eye-catching new vehicles such as the Mazda CX-90. The Ascent offers standard all-wheel drive, space for up to eight passengers and It has many standard safety and driver assistance features such as automatic emergency braking and adaptive cruise control. Under the hood is a 260-hp turbocharged flat-four paired with a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). But the powertrain's tendency to groan and groan under acceleration, lackluster crossover power, and tight third row put the Ascent at the bottom of this competitive class.

We think the premium model strikes the best balance between desirable features and overall value. All four wheels of each model are spun by the same bold turbocharged four-cylinder powertrain, but the base Ascent and Premium have slightly better EPA fuel economy ratings than the first two trims. Compared to the base model, the Premium gets standard upgrades that include blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, heated front seats, electrically adjustable driver's seat and a subscription-based Wi-Fi hotspot. Those who want to forego the second row seat are in luck, as Premium, Limited and Touring all have a 7-seater option at an additional cost.

With the company's trademark all-wheel drive system, the Ascent is well suited for family road trips in all seasons. The 260-horsepower turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder drivetrain provides moderate acceleration (60 mph in 6.7 seconds) and can be noisy under pressure, but it will pull a camper trailer or powerboat.

Each Subaru Ascent has a towing capacity of 5000 pounds.

With its elevated driving position and versatile seating configurations, the Ascent interior has all the hallmarks of a large crossover.

The Subaru infotainment system lacks the customization settings and intuitive controls found in leading competitors. It still has features that consumers love, like Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a Wi-Fi hotspot. The standard 11.6-inch touchscreen features large on-screen icons that are easy to see and respond quickly to your inputs.
