MERS-CoV: WHO confirms Abu Dhabi man down with this fatal viral infection

WHO has confirmed that a man from Abu Dhabi has tested positive for the potentially fatal Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus i.e MERS-CoV. The 28-year-old, who lives in Al Ain city, was admitted to a hospital last month. The health officials have checked 108 people with whom the man was in contact with but no secondary infections had turned up so far. The current condition of the infected man is still awaited. Cases of Mers-CoV infection are rare in the UAE. Prior to this new case, the last MERS-CoV infection was reported in November 2021 in the UAE. Since July 2013, a total of 94 cases, including the new one, and 12 deaths have been reported in the country. Globally, a total of 2,605 cases of the virus have been reported so far, with 936 associated deaths. In this video, we explain this fatal viral infection, its symptoms and related aspects.
