The Open Star Francesco Molinari's Almighty Fart is Caught by the Microphone as He Tees Off

Italian golf star Francesco Molinari gave one of his drives at The Open Championship an extra push after being caught ripping a fart mid-shot by microphones on the course.

Francesco Molinari opened up his second day at the 2023 Open Championship at Royal Liverpool Golf Course with a bang - or rather an almighty fart.

The Italian golf ace, who won The Open back in 2018, was caught by a course microphone ripping a massive fart during his opening tee shot on day two of the action at Royal Liverpool.

Stepping up to the tee on the first hole, Molinari drove his ball down the fairway. However, just as he struck the ball, the microphone caught the massive fart, leaving fans on social media who heard it in stitches.

Molinari endured a frustrating first day on Merseyside this week, finishing up day one two over par.

Those frustrations also carried over to day two, with the 40-year-old finishing up his second round +4, leaving him at 6+.

That will mean he will miss the cut at Royal Liverpool, but at least his first tee shot on day two was memorable.

One fan joked on Twitter: "Let's hope he didn't have problems with his follow-through."

A second added: "Was the applause for the fart or the shot?" A third said: "Put everything he had into it." A fourth wrote: "A little extra firepower off the tee."

And a fifth commented: "Some gusty winds over there in Hoylake."

Elsewhere, American Brian Harman produced a sublime second-round display which saw him finish day two -6.

The 36-year-old, who has never won a major championship before, sits top of The Open leaderboard at -10, seven shots clear of Min Woo Lee who finished up day two -3.
