00:00 I'm Laurie Blake, this is the WrestleTalk News, on Fridays we wear pink.
00:11 I wear pink, I don't know what you're doing.
00:14 I'm not your dad.
00:15 Our top story is about WWE signing AEW talent, or more specifically, not signing them.
00:21 Because they were scared.
00:26 This comes after some mysterious reports of a new unnamed AEW talent reportedly being
00:31 interested in a move to WWE.
00:34 Potentially the most nothing story to have ever storied.
00:37 No specifics, no concretes, nada.
00:41 But it has brought something more interesting out of the woodwork because in explaining
00:44 why talent seeking opportunities in WWE while signed with AEW is tricky, Dave Meltzer on
00:50 Wrestling Observer Radio let slip that WWE is very, very leery because of the MLW lawsuit.
00:58 So they're not making, if that MLW lawsuit wasn't there, WWE.
01:01 And it's not just these guys, the Elite, there's other guys that this relates to that have
01:05 interest at least in hearing from WWE, and in one case interested in going to WWE, and
01:10 WWE has been uncharacteristically not aggressively trying to steal talent.
01:15 Unless somebody's contract is actually over because of that MLW lawsuit.
01:22 Very, very leery, also a good way to describe Vince McMahon.
01:25 *phone rings*
01:27 Hello?
01:28 What's that?
01:29 Oh yeah, alright.
01:31 Allegedly, MLW of course have an ongoing dispute with WWE over many years of egregious, anti-competitive
01:38 behaviour when it comes to essentially throwing their weight around in order to poach talent
01:41 and drown the indies where they stand.
01:44 Meltzer noted that if WWE do something wrong and it gets out, that is not a good thing
01:49 for that lawsuit.
01:50 And also that it is now Ari Emanuel in charge and not a defiant Vince.
01:54 Defiant Vince is a bit like saying 'stripey tiger, you don't actually need the extra descriptor'
01:59 because Vince would do.
02:01 Just saying Vince.
02:02 Meltzer noted that while Ari likely wouldn't fire Vince or Dana over a contract offer that
02:05 made the lawsuit look bad, there will be a scapegoat in that, a sort of sacrificial firing
02:11 to appease the lawsuit gods.
02:13 Chumps for the chump god.
02:14 Meltzer didn't name the people who were reportedly interested in the WWE signing,
02:17 but his comments were sparked by discussion around Kenny Omega commenting that he will
02:21 go wherever these guys go in reference to The Young Bucks and not the early 2001 Blonde
02:27 Curtain crooners, The Calling.
02:29 Now I always say this to Tony Khan, so I think it's only fair to say here too, nevermind
02:33 signing new talent WWE, play with the toys you got.
02:37 One toy that people are worried Mum might have thrown out or taken to the charity shop
02:41 is Bray Wyatt who hasn't been seen on WWE TV since late February when he was seemingly
02:46 building to a match with Bobby Lashley at WrestleMania.
02:49 That didn't happen.
02:51 Wyatt was then taking time away due to illness, but hasn't returned nor been very active
02:54 on social media, essentially radio silence across the board, which leads to speculation,
03:01 which leads to WrestleTalk News, which leads to money for Laurie.
03:07 We know he's reappeared on Twitter to promote the WWE 2K23 Wyatt DLC pack, which is actually
03:12 his first tweet since June 7th where he paid tribute to the Iron Sheik following the legend's
03:16 passing.
03:17 It was reported earlier in the month that Wyatt is still sidelined and not cleared for
03:20 a return to action, but the DLC and promo from Bray is a good sign for Wyatt's continued
03:26 presence in WWE.
03:30 Before we crack on with the wrestling news I just wanted to pop in here and say hey,
03:34 why don't you go over to PFK and watch our AEW Fight Forever playthrough series.
03:39 Because me, Luke and Pete have been working our way through the Road to Elite mode and
03:41 we've got the penultimate episode coming out tomorrow, so you can head on over to partsfunknown
03:45 right now and catch up on the other three eps in time for that.
03:49 The series is really silly and we really enjoyed making it and frankly we would love to make
03:52 more gameplay stuff but you know people actually have to sort of, you actually have to bother
03:57 watching it.
03:58 So sort of justify that.
04:01 Alright, back in the room.
04:06 Despite the typical AEW/WWE tribalism that can exist within each company's respective
04:10 fanbases it seems that there may at least now be one common ground that both can agree
04:14 on that pro wrestling is in fact LA Knight's game.
04:19 The swelling popularity within WWE for Mr. Knight that has been brewing in recent months
04:23 now seems to have firmly spilled out into the opposition's fanbase.
04:26 Footage from outside the TD Garden in Boston showed a fan asking the question "whose
04:30 team is it?" and subsequently receiving an answer of "LA Knight" from another
04:36 large group of the Yeah!
04:37 Movement.
04:38 The caption of the video read "LA Knight is so over that he's even getting chants
04:42 at AEW events" something Knight himself would then acknowledge, sharing said video
04:47 to his Instagram story and adding more fuel to the fire.
04:50 If this was a tribal court I'm pretty sure the megastar would have already rested his
04:53 case for a mega push.
04:55 But hey, while we're on the topic of impending pushes there has been word of a certain AEW
05:00 Collision star receiving one of those in the very near future.
05:04 Now if you, and I sincerely hope you all did, watched the truly marvellous best two out
05:07 of three falls AEW tag title match on Collision last Saturday between FTR and Bullet Club
05:11 Gold you may have noticed something curious regarding who did and didn't take those
05:15 two falls that ensured Dax and Cash retained their titles.
05:19 Because yes, despite a best of three falls leaving the opportunity for both members of
05:22 an opposing team to take a fall each, poor old Juice Robinson was the unlucky victim
05:27 of both while Jey White remained unscathed.
05:30 And it turns out that this was in fact very intentional as according to Dave Meltzer on
05:33 Wrestling Observer Radio AEW are protecting Jey for bigger things.
05:38 Now White has in fact not tasted defeat first hand since debuting for the company in April
05:42 so this protection seems very much intentional.
05:46 And why wouldn't you protect the guy?
05:47 He's 30 years old, a former IWGP Heavyweight Champion and most importantly of all has received
05:51 Phil Brooks' stamp of approval.
05:53 One other fellow who was reportedly handpicked by Punk for Collision was Samoa Joe.
05:57 And we have of course already seen the two veterans run back their two decade old feud
06:01 from ROH.
06:02 However, despite suggesting that matters weren't finished between himself and Punk by, you
06:05 know, choking him out after the Belle of their Owen Hart tournament semi-final and all, there
06:09 may in fact be different plans in store for the Samoan Submission Machine next.
06:14 Specifically at August 27th's All In.
06:16 Because despite no matches being announced for Wembley just yet Joe may have just changed
06:20 as speaking on the Battleground podcast the ROH TV Champion teased a confrontation with
06:25 a certain local boy who also holds championship gold outside of AEW, Zack Sabre Jr.
06:33 Joe confirmed that he will in fact be in London for All In but questioned whether Zack would
06:36 want a beating in such close proximity to his mother.
06:40 Joe said "But Zack, he's home right?
06:43 Does he really want that to happen to him in his backyard?
06:46 Mum can finally make it out for the matches and I smear you all over the canvas.
06:51 Do you really want to ruin Christmas?"
06:53 It's just me, you know, if I'm thinking about the family events and how I want to
06:57 arrange this and I'm Zack I'm like, eh, maybe not the best time to really go after
07:01 Joe so yeah, we'll see.
07:04 While Joe may just be looking out for Zack's best interests, I for one wouldn't mind
07:07 seeing it.
07:08 I'm really sorry, Zack's mum.
07:11 Staying with Samoan Joseph when he's not busy threatening mothers or playing a Twisted
07:14 Murderous Clown in the new Twisted Metal TV series, he is of course usually defending
07:18 his ROH TV Championship.
07:21 One would assume that Joe was a lock for the upcoming Ring of Honor Death Before Dishonour
07:24 pay-per-view, an event that is happening tonight at Wrestling.
07:29 If you check the confirmed card for the show you would find Joe's name on there as he
07:32 is set to defend his title against former ROH World Champion Dalton Castle.
07:36 However, it turns out that this last minute booking was in fact a result of Joe not originally
07:40 looking likely to appear on the show at all.
07:44 Going to fight for Select Joe was set to take time off from both AEW and Ring of Honor to
07:47 take part in media appearances and promotion for his role in the new Peacock Twisted Metal
07:52 series.
07:53 However, due to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strikes, these appearances were cancelled and Joe became
07:58 available as of last week.
08:00 So then the contenders match between Shane Taylor and Dalton Castle was moved from Death
08:03 Before Dishonour to Before Death Before Dishonour, with the winner facing Joe for his title at
08:09 Death Before Dishonour.
08:10 And then after Death Before Dishonour, somebody would be the champion.
08:14 It turns out that these changes were not the only ones made to the show, as Fight for Select
08:17 also reported that Joe's original opponent for the event was in fact Mark Briscoe, with
08:21 Ring of Honor World Champion Claudio Castagnoli originally set to take on Eddie Kingston,
08:25 both rematches of March's Supercard of Honor event.
08:29 This was presumably changed due to Kingston's appearance in the G1 Climax and Joe's planned
08:33 time off, meaning that TK would instead merge the two and have Claudio defend against Briscoe.
08:39 Unfortunately Briscoe would then suffer a knee injury last week and that ruled him out.
08:43 A nightmare.
08:44 So TK adapted once more and changed course for Claudio to instead defend against PAC,
08:50 something that was set up during Wednesday's Blood and Guts match as PAC walked out on
08:53 Team BCC.
08:54 So yeah, so that's that.
08:55 Fair play to Tony Khan, that's a lot of stress I'm sure, but somehow you ended up
09:02 with a pretty good main event there.
09:05 Well done.
09:06 Speaking of Blood and Guts, let's take a peek at how the ratings fare, shall we?
09:09 Because was it worth repeatedly landing on a bed of nails?
09:12 Thankfully, thankfully yes.
09:13 Yep, that's right, this week's Dynamite saw an expected jump in viewership to a very
09:17 strong 953,000 on average according to WrestleNomics and Wrestling Reservers Dave Meltzer.
09:22 This was up 16% from the week prior and became AEW's strongest rating since the March 22nd
09:28 Dynamite headline by Kenny Omega and Elio Del Fai Kingo.
09:32 The KE-18-49 demo was also up 15% from last week, scoring a 0.34 overall.
09:37 I've been doing this for years and I still don't know what that means.
09:41 This success saw AEW President Tony Khan also proudly announce on Twitter that Dynamite
09:45 was the highest rated show on cable on Wednesday overall.
09:49 So all good in the hood, right?
09:52 Well.
09:53 Unfortunately for Tony Khan, hosting such a brutal, gruelling, violent match such as
09:57 Blood and Guts is sure to pay a toll on the competitors involved.
10:00 I mean, last year was evidence of that fact with Santana unfortunately still out from
10:04 a knee injury suffered during the bout.
10:07 Adding to that was the disappointment of already losing Blackpool Kombat Club frontman
10:10 and planned Blood and Guts contestant Bryan Danielson to a broken arm just weeks before
10:15 the match.
10:16 So yeah, this couple with the ROH chaos we mentioned made TK likely praying for safety
10:20 amongst all the thumbtacks and screwdrivers and stuff.
10:27 And thankfully this year there was some well needed good news as Dave Meltzer reported
10:30 on Wrestling Observer Radio that there were in fact no serious injuries coming out of
10:35 Blood and Guts.
10:36 How?
10:37 That is despite both Wheelie Uta and Kota Ibushi reportedly entering the match already
10:41 hurt so thankfully no injuries were even further aggravated.
10:44 How?
10:45 That's insane.
10:46 Well it's nice to finish on a positive injury note anyway isn't it?
10:50 Madness.
10:51 Happy Friday.
10:52 Go watch the AEW thing please.
10:53 Please.
10:54 So shall I do some sightseeing then?
11:04 Oh it's Hangman!
