Former President Donald Trump claims that he has been informed by special counsel Jack Smith that he is a target in the Jan. 6 criminal investigation. Smith has already charged Trump with approximately two dozen crimes related to retaining classified documents when he left the White House. In a statement on his Truth Social account, Trump suggested that he may soon face indictment for the Jan. 6 probe, focusing on his efforts to overturn his 2020 election loss to President Joe Biden. Trump is under a separate criminal investigation by a Georgia state prosecutor for attempting to get election officials in Georgia to reverse his loss to Biden in the state. Trump's lawyers have requested that any trial in the classified documents criminal case be postponed until after the 2024 election, in which Trump is the leading contender for the Republican nomination, but Smith's prosecutors oppose this request. A hearing in his classified documents criminal case is scheduled for Tuesday in a Florida federal court.
