402 Hp, 300 Mile Range per Charge, New Audi Q8 e-tron Sportback 2024

Starting at $75,595

For 2024, the e-tron and e-tron Sportback SUVs have been renamed the Q8 e-tron and Q8 e-tron Sportback, presumably not to be confused with other members of Audi's growing EV lineup - all using some form of the e. -tron name. To celebrate this event, Audi gave the SUVs a styling refresh that includes a redesigned grille, redesigned lighting elements and updated wheel designs. Both models now feature larger, 106.0-kWh battery packs that will give the Q8 e-tron models greater range and the ability to better compete with competitors. Last year, a higher-performance S e-tron model was introduced, but this one split up as the SQ8 e-tron, which we reviewed separately.

Premium equipment is hardly essential, as it includes 20-inch wheels, adaptive cruise control, air suspension, electrically adjustable heated front seats, LED headlights, panoramic sunroof, four-zone automatic climate control, heated steering wheel.

Beneath the Q8 e-tron's highly curved body are two electric motors, one at the front axle and one at the rear. Together they provide electronic all-wheel drive, but the rear engine does most of the work. In normal driving situations, they produce a combined 355 horsepower and 414 pound-feet of torque. However, putting the shifter in Sport mode unlocks 402 ponies and 490 pound-feet of torque for a short time. Our driving impressions revealed that the Q8 e-tron is fast and calm. Its quick acceleration is typical of electric vehicles, and its smooth, quiet ride quality has confirmed the reality of luxury.

Audi says the Q8 e-tron's 106.0-kWh battery pack should provide up to 300 miles per charge. If this estimate is correct, the Q8 gives the e-tron's competitive range estimate against competitors such as the I-Pace and Model X.

The Q8 e-tron's most impressive technology is its electrified systems, but the five-seat crossover also boasts a cutting-edge and practical cabin. The instrument cluster is filled with multiple high-resolution displays, including Audi's digital instrument cluster, called the Virtual Cockpit, and two flush-mounted touchscreens in the centre.

Each Q8 e-tron's infotainment system runs through dual touchscreens with a 10.1-inch display on the top and an 8.6-inch unit on the bottom. The top screen provides access to the standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto apps, as well as the existing Bang & Olufsen audio system, while the bottom screen is mainly used for controlling climate settings. Besides several power points, the system also has a subscription-based Wi-Fi hotspot; wireless smartphone charger is optional.
