A couple on an anniversary trip to a safari park were given the encounter of a lifetime when their vehicle was approached by a majestic elephant. Erin Oberem and her boyfriend Michael Smith were visiting Pilanesberg from nearby Johannesburg when they spotted an elephant in the distance. Having visited the park many times, they pulled over and turned off their engine to avoid upsetting it. But they both sat and watched as the elephant steadily plodded down the road towards their vehicle instead of carrying on its route off the major road. With the car in reverse “just in case”, they watched stunned as the majestic animal slowly approached their vehicle, looming large over it casting a shadow with its imposing figure, before moving on.
