02:48 These are things that most of the time
02:50 you'll be able to perform straight up,
02:52 right off the fly, little to minimum setup.
02:55 They're designed for close up mentalism,
02:57 which is sort of a venue that
02:59 hasn't really been touched upon too much.
03:00 They're not really slight heavy.
03:02 They're very easy to learn.
03:04 They're super easy to perform.
03:05 You can focus on your presentation.
03:08 Reactions that you get with the close up mentalism
03:11 peaks because it's so intimate.

04:30 And just look at the first three numbers

05:45 So this is the explanation for serial.
05:52 And this effect is basically just my take
05:56 on a serial number divination.
05:58 You're only revealing a piece of it,
06:01 but it's just as strong as if you were
06:02 to really do the whole thing.
06:04 What you're gonna do is you're gonna have a spectator
06:06 remove a dollar bill from their wallet,
06:08 fold it in half, and place it face,
06:11 I mean, yeah, just have them place it onto the table.
06:14 Make sure that you instruct them
06:16 to fold the face inward beforehand.
06:19 So the bill goes down.
06:20 Now, from here, you're gonna have to touch the bill
06:22 because you're gonna have to peek the information
06:24 that you're gonna be revealing in a little bit,
06:26 which is the first two numbers of the serial number.
06:28 So you're gonna pick up the bill,
06:29 you're gonna say, "Just so I can't switch it or anything,
06:31 "I want you to memorize this letter."
06:35 And this is just so that you apparently
06:37 can't switch the bill.
06:38 While they're memorizing that letter,
06:40 you're gonna be doing sort of a book test style peek,
06:43 and you're gonna be peeking across the bill
06:45 to the first two numbers here.
06:47 So on this bill, it's 68, and you can easily see that.
06:51 While the person will be looking from this direction
06:53 and seeing the letter.
06:55 So they get the letter D, you're seeing 68.
06:58 After they say, "Yep, got it,"
07:00 you close the bill and then put it down.
07:02 When you put it down, you wanna make sure
07:03 that this pyramid with the I at the top
07:07 is facing upwards, right?
07:10 So that goes down, that's there.
07:12 Now you're gonna say, "Does anybody know
07:13 "what this symbol is?"
07:15 If they do, then great, let them explain it.
07:17 If not, then you're gonna say,
07:19 "This is the all-seeing eye.
07:20 "This is apparently sort of a symbol for psychics
07:23 "and especially remote viewers.
07:25 "This isn't something that is actually true,
07:27 "but it doesn't really matter."
07:29 So you have them, you explain,
07:32 "The all-seeing eye is for remote viewers.
07:34 "Does anybody know what remote viewing is?"
07:36 Most of the time, people won't know.
07:37 If they do, again, just let them explain it.
07:40 But usually, I like to use sort of the analogy
07:42 of it's almost as if you were watching live television.
07:45 You're thousands of miles away
07:47 from the scene that you're seeing,
07:49 but you know exactly what's happening.
07:51 But with remote viewing, it happens more in your mind
07:53 than through cameras and televisions.
07:56 So after you've explained that
07:58 and you've had a little bit of a time lapse
08:00 between you touching the bill and putting it back down,
08:03 hopefully they will have forgotten that you ever touched it.
08:06 You'll tell them to pick it up.
08:07 You say, "I want you to open it up
08:09 "and you're gonna read a piece of information
08:11 "off of this bill."
08:12 And you'll have them say the first two letters
08:16 or the first two numbers on the serial number,
08:17 just remember them.
08:19 And then the bill gets closed, put back down.
08:22 Now you'll explain originally how this was developed
08:26 by the military to apparently get pieces of information
08:29 from just a piece of paper,
08:30 which is what I'm gonna try and do now.
08:32 And then you'll go into revealing the number 68,
08:34 however you want.
08:35 You can either write it in your hand,
08:37 which is what I usually prefer,
08:38 is just to take a marker and just write it down.
08:41 You could alternatively write it on a napkin,
08:43 piece of paper, or you could just name it outright
08:46 and all of that will work.
08:48 So whatever you decide,
08:49 hopefully you guys will enjoy it
08:51 and get a lot of use out of it.

09:12 Coffee melts.
09:33 This is one of the first tricks that I ever
09:36 really thought about creating.
09:37 It was originally gonna be done with plastic silverware.
09:40 So I wanted to just sort of hold a plastic spoon
09:43 and make it bend.
09:44 And I had the idea of how it was gonna be done,
09:46 but when I actually applied it and tried to do it,
09:48 it didn't really work out that well
09:49 because the plastic was too tough.
09:51 So I ended up going to a different,
09:54 a couple of different coffee places
09:55 and ended up finding this coffee stir at Dunkin' Donuts,
09:59 which worked out perfectly.
10:01 It's sort of the two straw version.
10:05 What you're gonna do for this effect,
10:06 all you need is coffee stir and a lighter.
10:10 You're gonna hold the straw out,
10:11 take the lighter and just hold it about
10:14 two thirds of the way down and just hold it there
10:17 until it starts to melt and then just bend it down.
10:20 You want about a 90 degree angle for this one.
10:24 And then once it gets hard,
10:26 it'll be stuck in that position.
10:30 So basically what you've done with this
10:32 is you've rearranged sort of the anatomy of this thing
10:36 to the point where when you bend it down and let it go,
10:40 it'll bend back into its original or its new position.
10:44 So for the finger positioning on this,
10:46 what you're gonna wanna do is take your first finger
10:49 and put it actually on the spot that you've melted
10:52 and your thumb will go right underneath it.
10:53 So you've got this sort of check mark thing
10:55 going on right now.
10:57 Usually I'll have the long side on the left
10:59 and the shorter side on the right.
11:01 From here you're gonna take your middle finger
11:03 and you're gonna push it on the right side
11:04 and just sort of bend it straight.
11:06 So now you have this illusion of a straight straw
11:10 when it's actually bent.
11:12 Now for this routine, usually I'll use two straws.
11:15 I'll have this one in my right pocket,
11:16 this one in my left pocket.
11:18 Bring them both out, show them both they look the same.
11:22 I'll hand the non-gimmicked one out to someone to check.
11:25 They'll look at it, it's obviously normal.
11:27 Then I'll have them follow along with me.
11:29 Usually I'll hold it out straight
11:31 and just tell them to concentrate on it
11:33 and just sort of try and make it bend.
11:36 And all you're gonna do here is as your hand's coming under,
11:38 you're just gonna release pressure on your first finger.
11:41 That'll cause it to just slowly bend upwards just like that.
11:45 And it just depends on how hard you squeeze.
11:47 If you squeeze, you know, slowly release it,
11:49 it's gonna come up slowly.
11:50 If you release it quicker, it's gonna come up quicker.
11:53 Usually you'll wanna go with a slow bend
11:54 so that it's more dramatic looking.
11:57 But at the end it's very simple.
12:02 Done.
12:04 So that's pretty much it.
12:05 Take a lighter, hold it underneath, burn it.
12:10 When it gets to a melted point,
12:12 it bends down to 90 degrees.
12:14 You're then gonna take your first finger,
12:16 put it right on the actual bend.
12:19 Middle finger comes along, bends that side down.
12:23 Whenever you want it to bend,
12:23 all you gotta do is just release pressure
12:25 on your first finger and it'll slowly bend upwards
12:28 just like that.
12:29 Few hours, not bad.
12:38 Recently I read an article about a code cracker
12:40 who can apparently memorize a string of 50 numbers
12:43 and letters in less than a minute.
12:46 Pretty impressive, right?
12:47 He apparently got this ability after staring
12:49 at lines of codes for hours every single day.
12:52 And that sort of made me wanna try
12:55 and do something similar.
12:57 I figure if I work with a deck of cards all the time,
12:59 I should be able to do something like that, right?
13:01 - Possibly.
13:01 - So we'll try this.
13:03 Take off the joker.
13:04 Can you shuffle?
13:05 Just do it right.
13:07 Just shuffle it up.
13:09 Just whenever you're done, just put it down.
13:14 - On top?
13:15 - No, just on the side.
13:16 All right.
13:16 Okay, so now what we're gonna do is,
13:19 I want you to just touch a pile.
13:20 The pile that you touch is the one
13:21 we're gonna use, so any one you want.
13:24 Good, all right.
13:25 I want you to take it, hold onto it.
13:27 That card's gonna be, or that deck,
13:28 it's gonna be sort of like a timer, all right?
13:30 You're gonna deal the cards onto the table,
13:32 and by the time you've hit the last card,
13:34 I'll hopefully have this deck memorized, all right?
13:36 - Okay.
13:37 - So we'll spread these out.
13:38 And just let me spread them out first before we start.
13:41 And go.

15:08 About a year ago, I released an effect called graphic,
15:11 which essentially changed a box of cards into a crib sheet.
15:16 But since the release of that,
15:19 the card boxes sort of changed and you have this.
15:22 So what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna walk you through
15:24 a different way of performing that same effect
15:26 using the joker as a crib sheet now.
15:30 So what you're gonna do is you're gonna be converting
15:33 every single, well, not every single,
15:36 but most of the things on this,
15:37 you're gonna be changing them into a numerical value
15:40 or just a letter value, right?
15:44 So over here we have the card that is in a stacked order
15:49 based on this crib sheet.
15:51 The first one is the J in the joker,
15:55 in which case you would bring out the J for the jack.
15:57 The next one is the O, which is gonna stand for 10.
16:05 And K is for the king.
16:08 And these cards, they don't really matter what they are.
16:11 You can just take out any king, 10, jack that you want
16:15 because what you're doing isn't really
16:17 essentially a memorized deck routine.
16:19 You're talking about code crackers
16:21 and all that sort of thing
16:22 and how this is just a line of code.
16:23 So it just makes sense that you'll just say jack, 10, king.
16:27 The idea, I didn't go through it.
16:29 There are a few on here that will be specific.
16:32 For instance, this guy is gonna be the king of spades.
16:34 And if you look at your own joker,
16:36 you'll see that it has the king on the bicycle
16:38 and he has the spades on his shoulder pad things.
16:43 And then there's also the ace of spades,
16:44 which is mentioned in the text in the bottom.
16:47 And those will be the two cards
16:48 that you'll need to sort of set aside
16:50 so you wouldn't wanna use a king of spades in the front.
16:53 So any king other than the king of spades
16:54 and any ace other than the ace of spades route this.
16:57 So next one would be after the king,
17:01 you're gonna go with the E.
17:03 In my head, my mnemonic for E is,
17:05 it looks like a backwards three.
17:07 So E is gonna be a three.
17:08 The next one is an R.
17:11 The mnemonic for that is gonna be,
17:13 if you think of like an old sort of radio, you go niner.
17:16 And so just nine, R, next one will be a nine.
17:20 This is now gonna be where the king of spades
17:22 comes into place.
17:23 So you're finished with the joker.
17:25 Now you're gonna go down to the king,
17:27 king of spades comes out.
17:29 So now the next thing that you're gonna be doing
17:32 is after you've named the king of spades
17:34 is you'll be going to the little R on the,
17:38 you'll notice there's a little R inside of a circle.
17:40 It'll be right towards the back wheel
17:42 and right above the 808, okay?
17:45 And once again, R, you'll be thinking CB radio niner, nine.
17:50 Next thing you'll be using is the 808
17:53 and that is obviously just take an eight
17:55 and then you have the O again or well, the zero.
17:58 So again, a 10, then another eight.
18:01 Next thing is you'll be using guarantee.
18:05 Guarantee, the G looks like a six.
18:07 So you'll use a six for that.
18:10 The U, I just think of the band again,
18:12 the mnemonic U2 and so that'll be a two.
18:14 Next one is an A, A is an ace.
18:17 Again, you wanna use an ace
18:18 that's not the ace of spades for this bar.
18:21 Next one, you have another R.
18:22 So again, niner, nine goes down.
18:25 Another A, another ace.
18:26 Once again, not an ace of spades.
18:28 Next one is an N.
18:30 This one is a little bit tricky,
18:32 but if you look at it too,
18:34 you can see that when it's turned sideways,
18:35 it sort of looks like an N.
18:37 So that's just my mnemonic for that.
18:40 Even though it's not written that way,
18:42 just remember N2.
18:44 That one goes down.
18:46 Next one is the T.
18:48 I use a four for that just because it sort of looks like
18:51 the way that you could write a T.
18:53 The next one is you have two Es, right?
18:57 And those are gonna be sixes this time.
18:58 Up here, it was a three because it looked sort of like a three.
19:02 Down here, they're the lowercase Es,
19:04 which just look like upside-down sixes.
19:07 So once again, you have six.
19:08 You have the other E.
19:09 Another six goes down.
19:11 Once you're done with guarantee,
19:12 you're gonna jump down to the ace of spades.
19:15 So the ace of spades is down there.
19:16 That's another specific card that you get to use.
19:19 After the ace of spades,
19:20 you're gonna go down to the numbers again,
19:23 and you'll see 300 gap way.
19:25 You're just gonna be using 300 from that,
19:27 in which case you'll get the three.
19:29 You have the two zero, so another 10, another 10.
19:33 And the last thing that you'll do is,
19:35 at the very bottom, after Kentucky,
19:38 you'll see there's 41018.
19:41 All these numbers are the same on every single joker.
19:44 So I just used the first one, the four,
19:46 and you're out of 10, so you can't keep going with that.
19:49 That's the whole stack.
19:50 That's it.
19:52 All right, so now that you guys know what the stack is
19:55 and how to use the joker as a creep sheet,
19:57 I'll walk you through the actual routine.
19:59 What you're gonna need to do is,
20:00 you'll have your stacked pile in your hand.
20:04 Next, you're gonna take the joker, put it on top of that,
20:07 then just take the rest of the deck
20:09 and put it on top of the joker.
20:10 So it'll go random cards, joker, stack deck.
20:14 Now what you're gonna do is,
20:17 you'll take the deck out of the box in the beginning.
20:19 You'll run through.
20:20 You're gonna take out the joker, put it off to the side,
20:24 and then you're gonna hand this pile
20:25 to someone to shuffle.
20:27 While they're shuffling that,
20:28 you're gonna give this pack, the memorized pack,
20:32 just a false shuffle.
20:34 Usually I'll just strip three cards off,
20:36 throw the pile, turn it over,
20:39 strip off three cards and throw it back on top.
20:41 And that just keeps it in the same order.
20:43 Just do it once, put the cards down.
20:45 Whenever they're done, they'll put the cards down as well.
20:49 Now what you're gonna do is,
20:50 you're going to ask them to point to a pile.
20:54 Either pile that they point to is the one that we'll use.
20:56 This is where it's gonna be a little bit wordy.
20:59 It's gonna rely upon the things that you're saying
21:01 to sort of work out.
21:03 But you're essentially gonna be just magician forcing it.
21:06 If they point to this pile,
21:07 which is the just random deck that they just shuffled,
21:11 then you're gonna say,
21:12 "All right, we're gonna use this pile as a timer."
21:14 You're gonna take the cards,
21:15 you're gonna deal them down onto the table.
21:17 And by the time you hit the last card,
21:19 I'm hopefully gonna have this deck,
21:21 or this pack memorized.
21:23 This is after you've already talked about
21:25 the code cracking and all that sort of stuff.
21:27 So they understand that you're just gonna be using
21:31 the single, just numerical value
21:34 rather than the actual whole card number and suit.
21:38 So, deck, if they pick this pile,
21:41 then again you say, "We'll use it as a timer."
21:43 If they pick this pile,
21:44 when you say, "We'll just point to one."
21:47 We'll say, "All right, this is the one that we're gonna use.
21:48 "We're gonna memorize this pile."
21:50 You then hand them this deck and explain the same thing
21:53 and just say, "This pile we'll use as a timer."
21:56 You're gonna deal the cards down.
21:57 By the time you reach the last card,
21:59 hopefully I'll have this entire pack memorized.
22:02 Now, spread the cards out just like that.
22:05 They go into the counting procedure,
22:07 just dealing it as fast as they can.
22:10 Whole time you're just staring at these cards,
22:12 pretending to memorize them.
22:14 Usually before they hit the last card,
22:16 I square the deck up, turn it over and put it down.
22:20 So, we'll just assume they've finished dealing.
22:23 Cards are over here.
22:25 Now you're gonna go into the process of revealing the cards.
22:28 All you have to do is make sure
22:29 that the joker is in a position that you can see.
22:32 So, if you just put it onto the table and turn away,
22:34 just so that they know the cards aren't marked or anything.
22:37 You'll look away and you'll just read off the joker,
22:39 just read off the crib sheet.
22:42 You'll say, "Jack."
22:43 Jack will come up, 10, king, three, nine.
22:48 Then you'll say, "This one was sort of a memorable card.
22:51 "It's king of spades."
22:52 And the king of spades will be turned over.
22:54 Go into the little R, eight, oh, eight,
22:58 and so on and so forth until you reach the last four.
23:02 And that's it, pretty much.
23:05 You're done.
23:06 Sit back, get your round of applause, and that's it.

23:17 So, you guys, you all know who Darren Brown is, right?
23:20 And recently, he predicted the lottery, UK lottery, right?
23:23 He did this by apparently having a group of people
23:26 sit in a room, they stared at a bunch of numbers on a board,
23:29 then they named the first numbers that popped in their head.
23:30 They added them all together, and the number that came out
23:33 turned out to be the actual lottery number.
23:37 And that sort of event just sort of pushed me
23:39 to create this effect.
23:41 Try this.
23:42 In here, I have a lottery ticket.
23:45 On the back of it, I have just an arrow.
23:47 We're gonna use this just to pick randomly, right?
23:50 So it'll just be random choices.
23:52 And I also have a stack of cards,
23:56 which just have random numbers from one to nine, right?
23:59 Just needs a quick mix.
24:02 Let's try this.
24:06 Take the first three cards out.
24:08 I'm gonna spend this.
24:08 Whoever points to it will get the first three cards, right?
24:10 So quick.

26:40 So for the lottery, you're gonna need two things.
26:42 You're gonna need to get yourself a lottery ticket,
26:45 and you're gonna need to get the numbers 1,665.
26:49 This is a local lottery from Rhode Island,
26:51 which has the four numbers.
26:53 If you don't have that, then there's an alternate
26:56 presentation that I'll be teaching in a little bit,
26:57 which won't require this.
26:59 But for those of you that do,
27:01 you're gonna wanna grab it, get 1665,
27:03 and then you're gonna wanna draw an arrow on the back of it.
27:07 The other thing that you're gonna need is a pack of cards
27:10 with numbers on it from one to nine.
27:12 So nine cards, each one has a number on it.
27:15 So now for these cards,
27:19 they're gonna be set up into a specific order.
27:22 They're gonna be going, all of them are gonna add up to 15.
27:25 So for the first pack, you're gonna have eight, six, and one.
27:29 The next three cards will be nine, four, and two.
27:35 And the last pile will be seven, three, and five.
27:37 So the way that this works is just on the fact
27:41 that they are all at equal to 15
27:44 when you add them together.
27:46 So in actual performance, what you're gonna do is,
27:49 these cards will be in your wallet.
27:51 You'll take them out after you've taken this
27:54 and placed it face down to the table.
27:56 These cards will be shuffled if you want to.
27:58 Usually I'll just strip three cards off
28:00 and then throw the pile on top.
28:01 This will keep that 15, 15, 15 order
28:03 going throughout the day.
28:05 So after a couple and you're good,
28:07 you're gonna run through three cards
28:09 and you're just gonna hand them to anybody.
28:12 You can just say who wants the first three cards.
28:14 And then those would go down.
28:16 Next three cards go down.

28:19 And now you're gonna just collect these individually
28:24 using this arrow.
28:27 This arrow was sort of my way of incorporating
28:31 sort of stage drama into closeup magic with stage.

28:42 is gonna be used and it just gives sort of a random,
28:45 you know, just a randomness to the choosing.

30:35 and then they could piece it together that way.
30:38 So if you're using a cell phone,
30:40 and every cell phone has a calculator on it,
30:42 everybody has a cell phone.
30:44 So you have them take it out, and we're gonna be adding
30:47 as if we'd just made three random three-digit numbers.
30:50 So now we would have 456, 938, and 271.
30:55 At this point, I'll usually make a reference saying,
30:57 if this had landed on, in a different position,
31:00 these numbers could have been over there,
31:02 and this number would have been 654 rather than 456,
31:06 making 200 higher and everything different.
31:10 It just sort of pushes the randomness of everything
31:14 and just makes it very fair-seeming.
31:16 So the phone, you would take your phone out,
31:19 you would add them together, say 1665.
31:22 I would ask, does that number mean anything to anybody?
31:24 Most of the time, people will say no.
31:26 And then I'll say, for me,
31:28 that's actually a lucky number of mine.
31:31 It's a number that I play every single week in the lottery.
31:33 Then point to this on the table, say, I'll check it out.
31:36 They turn it over, look at it, they see the number 1665,
31:40 and that's it, trick's done, the reactions are crazy.
31:44 - Right, they don't notice it on the monitor.
31:47 - Right, for the most of the time,
31:50 this gets pushed after it's been used
31:52 and it's served its purpose.
31:54 It gets placed off to the side
31:55 and most of the time, people just forget about it.
31:57 And then at the end, when it's turned over,
31:58 you know, it's, oh, completely forgot about it.
32:01 It's just a nice surprise ending.

32:06 Okay, so we just walked through the prepared version,
32:13 but this is something for, you know,
32:15 if you don't have that local lottery ticket
32:17 or if you're just unprepared
32:19 and you just wanna perform an add number effect.
32:22 For this presentation, what you're gonna do is,
32:25 you'll have three people, and what you're gonna do
32:27 is you're gonna have them just do things in their head.
32:30 You're gonna have them imagine a chalkboard.
32:34 You're gonna have them all walk up
32:35 and just imagine themselves writing numbers on a board.
32:38 The first person you're gonna say,
32:39 I want you to just write the number 942 on the board.
32:42 Turn to another person, say,
32:44 you're gonna write the number 735 on the board.
32:47 Turn to the last person, say,
32:48 you're gonna write the number 861.
32:50 So all three people have these numbers
32:52 in their heads right now.
32:53 And then you're just gonna go individually to each person
32:56 and say, all right, I want you to walk up to the chalkboard
32:58 and just erase one of the numbers.
32:59 So for the first person, let's say that they name a nine.
33:04 So you would just take that and just write it down.
33:07 Nine, all right?
33:08 Turn to the next person, they have 735,
33:11 say name, you know, go up to the board, erase one.
33:14 Let's say they name seven.
33:16 Seven gets written down.
33:18 Turn to the last person, 861, erase one,
33:21 and we'll say they go with one.
33:23 So right now we have 971 written down so far,
33:26 and I'll usually make mention to that now and say,
33:29 you know, if either one of you decided
33:31 to go with different numbers, you know,

33:35 two or 300, anything, you know, different.

35:34 And what's gonna happen is,
35:37 these are set up in an order that's hopefully
35:38 gonna be able to influence you, all right?
35:40 Why don't you hold your hand out.
35:42 I'm gonna do the cards in the hand face up.
35:44 What I want you to do is just count
35:45 how many black cards that you see, all right?
35:47 So that would be one, and just count out loud with it,
35:49 all right?
35:49 - Two, three, four, five, six.
35:54 - Six, right?
35:56 Okay, good.
35:57 Now we're gonna try this.
35:59 I told you these cards were designed to influence you,
36:01 right?
36:02 They were set up into an order to influence you.
36:04 I'm gonna write down four letters.

36:10 Now these four letters can be rearranged
36:12 into six different words, all right?
36:14 So you could go with, you know, pots, tops,
36:16 that sort of thing.
36:17 What I want you to do, just write down the first word,
36:19 you know, that you can rearrange with that,
36:21 that pops in your head.

36:29 Stop, and that wasn't rearranging anything,
36:30 you just, that was the first word
36:31 that popped in your head, right?
36:32 - Yep.
36:33 - I told you that these were designed to influence you.
36:35 If we look at them, you were focused so much on the face
36:38 that you didn't notice what was on the back.
36:39 I told you it was gonna be using suggestions,
36:41 sort of a subliminal kind of style trick.
36:44 If you watch the back of the cards.
36:46 See, the first one is an S.
36:48 Next one is a T.
36:49 Next one is the O.
36:51 T.
36:52 Stop.
36:53 All right.

36:57 All right, so this is Stop.
37:01 This effect is very fun to perform,
37:04 just because the principle behind it
37:06 is something that is just fun to do.
37:09 It's something that, when you perform it,
37:12 it's just funny to see that they don't notice
37:14 what's going on the whole time.
37:15 You've seen the performance,
37:17 and you saw how Nate didn't notice what was going on,
37:20 and pretty much nobody will when you perform it.
37:23 It's based on sort of the basketball bear test,
37:27 if you've ever seen that online,
37:28 where they have you focusing on one thing so much
37:31 that you miss something else.
37:33 And they're passing this basketball along,
37:35 and you're supposed to count how many times
37:37 the basketball is passed, and what happens is
37:40 a bear walks by, and nobody notices it.
37:43 And the same principle is at work here.
37:46 Pretty much, you're having them focus so much
37:49 on the face of the cards and the color of the cards
37:51 that they don't see that there is anything
37:54 written on the back.
37:55 So Stop flashes right by them, and they don't see it.
38:00 Now, that's the first part of the effect,
38:04 is just having them hold their hand out
38:05 and just telling them, you know,
38:06 "I want you to just see the colors,
38:08 "and just count how many you see,
38:10 "how many black cards that you see."
38:12 And they're focused on this.
38:14 They see the Stop.
38:15 Sorry, you'd actually want it the other way,
38:18 around this way, so that Stop is facing them.
38:23 And once again, nobody's gonna know
38:25 what's happening at this point.
38:27 And now, once that's done, you say,
38:30 "Actually, this trick is more about influence
38:32 "than it is anything else."
38:35 And you'll have them, you'll write down
38:37 on a piece of paper, just the letters S-T-O-P.
38:40 You won't put them in that order.
38:41 You'll go with, you know, an order that doesn't make a word.
38:43 So you'd go with P-T-O-S, all right?
38:46 And you'll say, "These letters can be arranged
38:48 "into six different words."
38:50 You know, you can go with Pots, Tops.
38:53 And you're just gonna name, you know,
38:54 those two which are sort of obvious ones,
38:57 and hope that they'll go for Stop,
38:59 because the other ones are, you know,
39:00 Ops and Post, things that don't immediately come to mind.
39:05 So you say, you know, Pots, Tops, you know,
39:07 whatever you want.
39:09 Usually they will rearrange it into Stop.
39:11 If they don't, then I'll handle, you know,
39:13 I'll show you how to go through that now.
39:15 But for the most part, if they do say Stop,
39:17 then you just go through it again and say,
39:19 you know, "You were so focused on the front
39:20 "that you didn't notice what was on the back."
39:23 You're just gonna slowly deal through the cards
39:24 and then show the S first, and then show the T,
39:29 then the O, and then the P.
39:30 And that'll get, you know, a great reaction,
39:32 'cause first of all, they missed it.
39:34 Second of all, you've somehow subconsciously
39:36 influenced their choice.
39:37 You know, it's apparently a demonstration
39:41 of subliminal suggestion.
39:43 But if they don't say Stop,
39:47 then all you have to do is change the order of the cards.
39:51 All right?
39:52 Now these five, or these four cards,
39:54 are chosen specifically for just their mnemonic reasons.
39:59 On the five, I draw an S, because the five looks like an S.
40:04 On the four, I use the T, same as in graphic.
40:07 Photographic, sorry.
40:10 Then the O is for the 10, and the P is for the nine,
40:14 'cause the nine just sort of looks like a P
40:16 if you use your imagination and flip it all around crazy.
40:19 So that goes down, and that makes your Stop.
40:24 Let's get these going the right way.
40:25 S, T, O, P.
40:28 It's like that, okay?
40:29 So these cards are gonna be sandwiched
40:32 in between a bunch of other cards, all right?
40:34 Usually I'll sandwich them between cards that I know.
40:37 Right now, they're sandwiched in between two jacks, okay?
40:42 So these are in the packet,
40:44 and after you've dealt the cards into their hand,
40:47 just like that, you're then gonna have them
40:51 write out the word on a piece of paper, all right?
40:53 If they write Stop, you're good, you're done.
40:55 If they write Post,
40:58 then you're gonna have to rearrange the cards.
41:00 Because you know the mnemonic value,
41:02 you can separate it and move them around pretty easily.
41:05 All you'd have to do for Post is move the nine over,
41:08 which you know is the P,
41:10 and then move the 10 over, which you know is the O,
41:12 and that'll put it in P, O, S, T, just like that.
41:16 All right, if they go for Ops,
41:18 then you'll be in this position again, five, four, 10, nine.
41:22 What you'll do for Ops is you'll just move the 10 over,
41:26 then you'll move the nine over,
41:28 and then just put the cards back together.
41:29 Usually you'll do this as you're just showing them
41:31 to be completely random, you know?
41:33 You'll just say, you know, random choices,
41:34 and you'll just move the cards around,
41:36 so that when the cards are flipped back over,
41:38 you'll get, you know, your O, your P.
41:44 Oops, sorry, I messed that up, but you know,
41:46 you get the idea.
41:48 Ops will come out, or whatever word they decided to go with,
41:51 and it looks, once again, like you somehow subliminally
41:55 suggested this word to them specifically,
41:58 and it's a really cool effect,
42:00 really cool principle behind it,
42:01 and obviously you can do, you know,
42:05 whatever you want with it.
42:06 You could go with numbers, anything, really, you know,
42:08 possibilities are endless, you guys,
42:10 and just, you know, do whatever you want with it.
42:13 Okay, so now I'm gonna walk you guys
42:21 through an alternate presentation effect for this routine.
42:25 Originally, when I first created this effect,
42:27 I was using it as sort of a hypnosis suggestion effect,
42:31 and what I did was I would have four red cards
42:34 and four blue cards.
42:35 I would apparently make the blue cards
42:37 sort of make the spectator think
42:39 that they were red, apparently,
42:41 but in reality, it's just using, once again,
42:43 the principle of they're paying attention to the color,
42:46 and they're not paying attention to the back of the cards,
42:48 so they literally change colors right in front of their
42:51 faces, and they don't notice it.
42:53 Now, the presentation that I used for this
42:55 was when I was going to this suggestion hypnosis routine,
42:59 I would turn to the spectator, have them close their eyes,
43:00 and put them into this sort of, you know,
43:02 false induction hypnosis, you know, hypnotized state,
43:06 and I would have them imagine that they were holding
43:08 a bunch of red berries, and then slowly, one by one,
43:12 they see those berries start to change,
43:13 and I would start snapping my fingers,
43:15 just see each one changing from red to blue,
43:17 just changing into a blue berry over and over,
43:20 and this was apparently, again, my, you know,
43:22 suggestion hypnosis thing.
43:25 Then I would have them hold up their hand and say,
43:26 "All right, I'm gonna deal the cards in your hand,
43:27 "I want you to pay attention to the colors on the front,
43:29 "or I want you to just pay attention
43:30 "to the colors of the cards.
43:31 "Every time you see a black card,
43:32 "I want you to just count it in your head, all right?"
43:34 So that would be one, two, and then so forth,
43:37 and so on, and then you would go through all the cards.
43:39 Once again, they won't notice it.
43:41 You can be very open and plain about it.
43:44 They'll count the cards, they'll tell you,
43:46 "All right, I counted four black cards,"
43:47 and you say, "All right, and how many blue cards
43:49 "did you see?"
43:50 They'll be a little confused by it,
43:52 and then you'll say, "All right,
43:53 "now that I'm telling you about it,
43:55 "hopefully you'll be able to see it this time,
43:57 "so watch the cards."
43:58 And now you'll be a little more obvious about it,
44:00 you'll tap the back, and sort of just keep the cards
44:03 close together so that hopefully this time
44:06 they'll notice the change from red to blue.
44:08 If they don't, then just say, "All right,
44:10 "the hypnosis, it'll take a little while to wear off,"
44:13 and hopefully by this point,
44:15 other people will have noticed it,
44:17 or if you want to, you can even show them
44:20 the actual change in the beginning.
44:22 This way you get reactions from them,
44:23 and they'll be laughing at the fact
44:25 that they're not getting it or understanding it,
44:28 and then usually they'll just pitch in,
44:29 be like, "Pay attention to the back of the cards,"
44:32 and then in that case, they'll actually see them,
44:34 be like, "Whoa, whoa," and they'll react to it,
44:36 and it's a fun opening effect,
44:39 or you can use it in the middle if you want to.
44:41 Usually I'll use it as an oprah
44:42 just because it's a quick, fun little thing.
44:45 You get these spectators on your side
44:48 in the very beginning.
44:49 It's just a fun routine for them.
44:51 They won't really feel alienated by it or anything.
44:54 It's just a fun routine, and a lot of people enjoy it,
44:58 and I hope you guys enjoy it as well.

46:44 This routine starts off with a sort of old idea.
46:48 It's an Al Baker routine called
46:49 the Finger Knows and Tells.
46:51 And what you're gonna do is you'll have somebody
46:53 hold their hand out, and you'll ask them
46:55 to think of a finger and just concentrate on it.
46:57 Sort of send all of your energy into that finger.
46:59 And all you're gonna do is just touch
47:03 each individual finger.
47:04 And what'll happen is you'll feel a difference
47:07 in one of them.
47:07 It'll be usually a little more rigid
47:09 or a little harder to push back.
47:11 And it's just muscle reading.
47:12 You'll feel the difference.
47:15 In this case, I think you're thinking
47:16 of the first finger, right?
47:17 - Yeah. - Yeah.

49:38 so that this three can cover two different predictions
49:41 based on the wording that you use.
49:43 All right, so that covers the three out.
49:46 But now you need to know what to do for the four.
49:48 It's the same thing, essentially.
49:49 You're just gonna say, hold your hand out.
49:51 If they drop just like their thumb,
49:54 then you would just emphasize this again and just say,
49:57 all right, so you decided to leave four standing.
49:59 And then once again, you would take the card,
50:01 turn it over, hiding the three underneath your finger,

50:06 If, again, hold your hand up,
50:07 if they drop four fingers,
50:09 then once again, you emphasize that fact and say,

50:15 Again, almost always they'll say no.
50:17 If they do, then it doesn't matter.
