'It's like a fire in my bones': 100-year-old man's determination to attend Nottingham Windrush generation event
  • 10 months ago
Thursday, June 22 marks 75 years to the day since the HMT Empire Windrush docked in Tilbury, Essex, bringing people from the carribean to settle and work in the UK.

Thousands went on to move to Nottingham, and create an entire generation who's impact on culture and the economy is only now starting to be properly recognised.

Earlier today members of the Windrush Generation got together at Nottingham council house to mark the occasion.

Among them was a 100-year-old man who moved to the UK from Jamaica.

In 2018 it was revealed the government had not recorded the details of people who had been granted permission to stay in the UK, which led to many being wrongfully deported. Jordan Guerrero reports.
