King and Queen meet Windrush portrait sitters in Buckingham Palace
  • 10 months ago
The King and Queen hosted a reception where they met 10 people whose faces have been immortalised in paint marking the 75th anniversary of arrival of the Empire Windrush. Charles and Camilla chatted and joked with the elders, who sat for the portraits which were painted by black artists personally selected by the King. At one point Charles joked with Alford Gardner, who was a subject of one of the works, saying “it’s sometimes awful having to look at your own portrait”. Report by Blairm.
