Generative AI's Unregulated Growth Puts Consumers In Danger
  • 10 months ago
A coalition of transatlantic consumer advocacy groups is calling on the United States and the European Union to develop regulations for generative artificial intelligence technologies. The coalition argues that the rapid development and deployment of generative AI is outpacing legislative and regulatory action, leaving consumers unprotected. They express concerns about including personal data in AI training sets, the potential dissemination of biased or misinformation-laden content, monopolistic market share by large companies, and the environmental impact of running AI tools. The EU is considering legislation to regulate AI, with the European Parliament approving a draft version of the AI Act as a negotiating framework. However, developing final legislation and reaching a compromise may take up to two years.
