Chinese Cuban Spy Base Exposed
Chinese telecom giants Huawei and ZTE are suspected of playing a role in expanding China’s ability to spy on the US from Cuba, according to people familiar with the matter. The suspicions were fuelled by intelligence that tracked Huawei and ZTE workers entering and exiting facilities suspected of housing Chinese eavesdropping operations on the island. While neither company is believed to make the sophisticated tools used for eavesdropping, both specialize in the technology required to facilitate such an operation. China has maintained a spy base in Cuba since 2019 and the two countries already jointly run four eavesdropping stations on the island.
