Young baseball fan is left distraught after his brother throws game ball away - but Boston Red Sox save day by gifting signed jerseys to the kids

One family faced a long night after one of their boys threw away a game baseball - until the Boston Red Sox came to the rescue.

The TV broadcast caught the moment during the New York Yankees' double header against their rivals on Sunday.

After being given a foul ball by a nearby fan sitting just in front of him, the young man - Charlie Mulligan - launched the ball back onto the field.

His brother Jack was left distraught at what his sibling had done, while their father Pat was also left in disbelief.

Both children crumbled into their dad's arms unhappy on Father's Day.

After seeing what happened the Boston team saved the day for the Mulligan family by gifting them signed baseballs and jerseys
