So far, there is no official confirmation that Elemental 2 will ever be made. Only six of Pixar's previous 18 original features — Toy Story, Cars, Monsters, Inc., Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, and Inside Out — have received a sequel or prequel. Of these six movies, four earned Academy Award nominations for Best Original Screenplay. For Elemental 2 to be greenlit, Elemental would have to meet or surpass the expectations set by Pixar films that were followed by a sequel or prequel. To do so, Elemental will have to be a huge box office draw, earn critical acclaim, and have its story praised from both an emotional and technical standpoint.
