Spice World The Movie - did the critics miss the point? : Just Films & That
  • 10 months ago
Just Films & That is a podcast that celebrates underrated and underseen films. In this episode, we take a look at Spice World The Movie, which did not do very well at all with the critics. But, did they miss the point? Ok sure, this isn’t a terrific film when compared to major Hollywood blockbusters, and it’s quite clearly a capitalist cash grab involving one of the biggest bands in the world at the time. But, for a young Spice Girls fan growing up in the 90s, this film was so much fun, and inspired so much joy for its target audience. Maybe we are blinded by nostalgia, but due to the meta and tongue in cheek nature of the film - all of which is elevated 10 fold by an outstanding performance by Richard E. Grant - we are left feeling utterly convinced that this film is underrated. You can listen to the full episode on Spice World now, or any episode of Just Films & That, wherever you get your podcasts.
