WATCH: Participants for the SpoGomi World Cup in the Philippines pick up trash at Baseco, Tondo, Manila on Saturday, June 10.

SpoGomi is an abbreviation of "Sport Gomihiroi" (picking up trash), a sport that originated in Japan in 2008, where teams compete for points depending on the amount and type of trash they collect.

The event aims to reduce the amount of trash that flows into the ocean with the problem of marine waste becoming a serious global problem. (MB Video by Arnold Quizol)
