00:00 All I wanted to do was find out what this is out of.
00:02 Ah, OK, so this is out of a buccaneer.
00:04 This is the rear seat out of a buccaneer jet, fast jet.
00:07 -How did you come by this? -Where did we get this from?
00:09 -We can't really say that, can we? -Top secret. Classified.
00:11 -Oh, is it classified? -Yeah.
00:13 -What happens if you... -No, no, don't do that.
00:15 Don't push that.
00:16 No, you'll shoot straight out of the ceiling.
00:17 Would I? Would I?
00:19 Oh, dear!
00:22 Right, we're off.
00:23 I'm Henry Cole, and along with fellow fanatics Fuzz Townsend...
00:28 -Right, you comfortable? -Wazza!
00:30 -and Guy Willison... -I love that.
00:32 We're on the hunt for vintage treasures in the nation's sheds.
00:35 OK, go on, then.
00:36 We're going to buy them, fix them up...
00:38 Yes!
00:39 ...and sell them for a tidy profit.
00:42 Welcome to Shed and Buried.
00:45 Hey, now, look, right, today, it's Suffolk, mate, isn't it?
00:53 I love a bit of Suffolk.
00:55 It's Suffolk. It's constable country.
00:57 That's not because of the policing in the community.
01:00 No.
01:02 But constable, obviously, was a painter, wasn't he?
01:05 What was that famous one he did?
01:06 -The Hay Wain. -The Hay Wain!
01:08 You're absolutely right. Well, look,
01:09 it's because the light here in Suffolk is glorious,
01:13 and hopefully so is the trinket tree.
01:15 Yeah, well, I think it will.
01:17 I feel that something nice is going to happen today.
01:20 -I think you might be right. -Got that feeling in me.
01:22 Glovey fingers.
01:24 -Hey, look, right, Tim and Andy... -Yep.
01:26 Right, they're a duo.
01:28 Now, Andy, I'm told, is a paramedic.
01:31 -Oh, is that right? -Yeah.
01:32 -Oh, cool. -I don't know what Tim does,
01:33 but basically, the two of them together have a shed full of loveliness.
01:38 Well, that sounds brilliant. That's what we want.
01:41 Now, you two are collectors, aren't you?
01:51 -Yeah. -How did you meet
01:52 and how did you start collecting and what have you been collecting?
01:56 Well, I met you because I bought an overpriced something off you, didn't I?
01:59 It's a sticker, wasn't it?
02:00 -A Castrol sticker. -Yeah.
02:02 Yeah, a Castrol sticker.
02:04 And then we just met up after that.
02:06 -Yeah. -So, do you wing and deal a bit, then?
02:08 -Yeah. -Like me and Fuzz?
02:09 -Yeah. -Yeah, we've got a little business
02:11 and things that we buy, we justify it by buying for the business.
02:14 So, our wives are quite happy with that.
02:16 -Yeah, good. Okay. -You're not supposed to say that.
02:19 But what do you collect?
02:20 There's a petrol pump over there.
02:22 -Yeah, pumps. -Well, have a look at that. That's nice.
02:23 Pumps, old signs, classic cars.
02:26 Rusty stuff, oily stuff, car stuff.
02:29 Oh, sounds good.
02:31 So, now, look, right, we'll have a little rummage about, if that's okay,
02:34 and Fuzz and I might call you in when we need some advice,
02:37 especially on something like that, yeah?
02:39 -Yeah. -And then at the end, hopefully,
02:42 we might have a haggle.
02:43 -Yeah, go for it. -Okay, that sounds good.
02:46 Apart from the bits that aren't.
02:47 Well, yeah, no, great. So, look, we might as well start just here.
02:49 -Yeah. -What do you think, mate?
02:50 -All right, I think so. -All right, boys.
02:52 -We'll see you in a bit. -See you.
02:54 Hey, look what we've got here.
03:01 Now, this is the dream, isn't it?
03:02 This is the dream.
03:04 When you're a kid, you go on the dodgems at the fair,
03:07 -and then you want one. -Yeah.
03:09 Just imagine being able to drive one of these along the road.
03:11 Brilliant.
03:12 Dodgems, or bumper cars, have been around since the 1920s.
03:21 Apart from a short-lived hovercraft version, trialled by Disney,
03:25 they have invariably been electric-powered.
03:27 Is there a market for this kind of stuff?
03:31 Well, I guess there is.
03:32 I mean, you know, if you had a bit of a party barn or party room kind of thing,
03:36 something like this, put some lights into it.
03:38 I mean, the dream is to drive one of these down the road, isn't it?
03:41 I personally think that would be a nightmare.
03:44 But anyway, boys, come in here.
03:46 Look, can I ask you a few questions on this, right?
03:49 Now, this pump here, quite late, isn't it? Where did that come from?
03:52 Don't say a garage, because that's just pathetic.
03:55 No, this didn't come from a garage. This came from a farm.
03:58 -Oh, OK. All right. -But it did come from a garage originally, obviously.
04:01 Yeah, nice. OK, let's move on anyway. Thanks, lads.
04:04 -Come on, then, Fuzz. -Come on. I'm coming.
04:07 Tim and Andy's second shed is full of ephemera,
04:12 perfect to bring a splash of colour to any workshop.
04:15 From petrol cans, that is September 1929,
04:21 to garage signs.
04:24 That is the pinnacle of Prats.
04:26 -Yeah. -I rather like me.
04:29 And a 1950s tar inflation chart.
04:32 Wow. Oh!
04:36 No, no, no. Look, I've ripped it at the back through the hose.
04:39 Oh, no.
04:40 Uh-oh. We'll have to buy it.
04:43 But the elephant in the shed is a lot bigger.
04:46 Here we have a lovely Jensen Healy
04:50 from probably about the early 1970s.
04:53 -OK, so Jensen Healy? -Yeah.
04:55 That was a merger, obviously, between the two, no?
04:58 Jensen used to make the bodies for Austin Healy's,
05:01 -Austin Healy 3000s and 160s. -Did they?
05:04 -They did, yeah. -God, I never knew that, man.
05:06 Yeah, it was all outsourced. So there was a long history.
05:09 So, in the early 1970s, or maybe late 1960s,
05:14 they came to a deal whereby this was an amalgamation of their ideas,
05:18 the Jensen Healy.
05:19 The Jensen Healy was principally aimed at the US market,
05:25 with 7,000 out of the 10,000 cars produced going overseas.
05:30 Today, UK models are highly collectible.
05:33 I've got to tell you, mate, I'd rather like owning this.
05:38 Yeah, I think it's a great little car.
05:40 I wonder if it's a goer.
05:42 Well, my first car actually was a Triumph Spitfire 1500,
05:45 and it had air conditioning with the roof up
05:47 because it had a hole in the floor.
05:50 Check this out. Look at this, man.
05:52 This obviously is some kind of...
05:54 -It's a little... -Sit in it again.
05:59 -Let me just try this bit. -OK.
06:00 -Does this work? -What do you mean?
06:03 -Careful, you're not getting out of there. -Blimey, I tell you what, man.
06:06 You don't want to put on the pounds like me, do you, as a pilot?
06:08 We should find out from the boys what this is.
06:11 Tim, Andy, come here.
06:12 All I wanted to do was find out what this is out of.
06:15 Ah, OK, so this is out of a Buccaneer.
06:17 This is the rear seat out of a Buccaneer jet, fast jet.
06:20 -How did you come by this? -Where did you get this from?
06:22 -We can't really say that, can we? -It's top secret.
06:24 -It's classified. -Oh, is it classified?
06:26 It's nice, though. It's a proper ejector seat.
06:28 -What happens if you... -No, no, don't...
06:30 Don't push that, Henry. Don't push that. Don't push that switch.
06:33 Do you think it's been ejected?
06:34 No, you'll shoot straight out of the ceiling.
06:36 Would I? Would I?
06:38 Don't you dare touch it.
06:40 -It's very tempting. -That handle there.
06:42 -Is it? -Is this desirable to sell?
06:44 -It's really... -You know, people collect this stuff.
06:46 People polish them up and put a nice seat in the bottom.
06:49 -Is that it, really? -Yeah.
06:50 Tell me about this Jensen. It's really nice.
06:52 Oh, this is my little baby, this is.
06:55 Here we go.
06:56 I know what the next line is always, don't you?
06:58 -I'll sell it to you, Henry. -Will you, Andy? OK, good.
07:00 Yeah, cos he'll be going, "This is my baby. This isn't for sale."
07:04 -Can you get out of there, Henry? -No.
07:06 -Hold on. Just pull this. -No, don't pull that. I'll get out.
07:09 So we're not likely to get the Jensen,
07:15 but I've just noticed something interesting.
07:17 What's that round the back there?
07:19 Hold on. That looks like a light box.
07:21 It's quite young, if you see what I mean.
07:24 -Yeah. -Isn't it?
07:25 -Yeah, but that's good nowadays. -Is it?
07:26 Yeah, that's from the era that people are buying classic cars from now.
07:30 So, actually, sort of '70s, '80s, '90s, that's all good, I reckon.
07:35 Well, Fuzz, I've got to tell you, whether it works or not,
07:37 we can get it working, cos it is an illuminated sign, isn't it?
07:40 Yeah, yeah, that's nice. Very nice.
07:43 Hey, look, now, also over here.
07:45 Now, what do you reckon on that, puppy?
07:47 That is a dispenser for Red X lubrication.
07:51 -It's rather lovely, isn't it? -It is really lovely.
07:53 -That's a beautiful thing. -Yeah, I like that a lot.
07:55 OK, so that's another potential. We'll put that there so we don't forget.
07:59 That's nice, the vacuum. God, there's so much stuff here.
08:01 There is, isn't it? Absolutely everywhere you look.
08:04 So, cars, pumps, dodgyums, and lots of weird and wonderful stuff.
08:13 But what can we afford?
08:15 Time to get the boys back in for a little haggle.
08:19 Now, look, we're just going to do a sighting lap
08:21 and then we'll come back in for the kill, all right?
08:23 -OK. -OK, Kenneth.
08:24 -The Jensen Healey. -Yeah.
08:26 Lovely car. It's kind of already... Is it on the road?
08:29 Is it drivable and everything like that?
08:32 -Is it up for sale? -No.
08:33 Right, OK, well, let's leave it at that one.
08:36 You've got a Derv petrol pump, quite a late one.
08:39 -Yeah, how much is that? -£400, that one.
08:42 That's cheap. Now, look, down there, there are some signs.
08:45 Now, there is underneath a Jaguar Daimler illuminated sign.
08:49 -Oh, that's nice. -It's quite modern, though.
08:51 -Yeah, it's quite modern. -Yeah.
08:52 Yeah, that is an issue.
08:53 I think we're 70s, probably 70s, 80s on that.
08:56 So we'd need 500 for that.
08:59 -You have a Red X thing. -Yeah.
09:03 -£60. -All right.
09:05 Sighting lap over. Time to start bidding.
09:11 300 for the Jaguar light box.
09:13 -£400. -£360.
09:16 -It's a nice round figure. -I'd say we can do it like that.
09:18 -We'll do that. -Yeah.
09:19 OK, we're in.
09:21 -I'll tell you what, that Red X thing, £50. -OK, we'll do that.
09:27 What about the Dunlop inflation pressure charts?
09:29 You couldn't just throw that in as a gift, could you?
09:31 Is it in good condition?
09:32 Well, it's a bit ripped at the back, actually.
09:36 Is it ripped as in, like, well-built or ripped as in...
09:38 No, no, not as in well-built. Ripped like me, which is just wrecked.
09:44 No, but I dropped it.
09:46 -£40. -£35.
09:50 -£40. -OK.
09:52 -What was that? £35? -I'm just shaking hands.
09:56 And finally, the big ticket item.
09:59 The pump up the other way. OK, I like that, but I don't like it for £400.
10:04 -£300? -£390.
10:07 -£350. -£300...
10:09 £350.
10:11 We're in Suffolk with Tim and Andy, haggling over a petrol pump.
10:25 -So, we're at £370 there. -Oh, I think we are.
10:29 -£375. -Oh, God, come on.
10:31 All right. Right, £375.
10:34 Now, look, boys, I tell you what, I haven't really worked out what we've bought,
10:37 but all I do know is we've had a fantastic day.
10:39 And I can't wait to get back to the shed to see Guy squeal
10:42 when I say, "Restore that."
10:45 Back at the ranch, it's time to show the goods to top restorer Guy Willison,
10:53 aka Skid, aka Mr Grumpy.
10:58 -That, I think, is rather lovely. -That is lovely,
11:01 but I'm very worried about getting the funds back in,
11:06 i.e. you won't want to part with them, because they are lovely.
11:09 When that's restored, it'll be gorgeous.
11:12 You'll want that in the workshop where the car is.
11:15 -Well, look, the Reddix is available. -Yeah, that is.
11:18 And also that, which I tore at the back. That's why we've got it.
11:21 The pump is going to need a total reboot, but it's perfect for a man cave.
11:27 And if we get it right, we'll be worth at least a grand.
11:31 Hear me out. This stuff, powder coat and Bobby Dazzlers...
11:35 -Yes? -...Candy Apple.
11:37 -Candy Apple Red. -It's my favourite colour.
11:40 I know it works really well with Polished Alley.
11:43 So we clean it up, clean the face up, get this polished up,
11:47 and then Candy Apple Red Metallic. It's a funky thing.
11:50 Over the next hour, we strip the pump down to its core.
11:56 -There we go. -Skid, that is fantastic.
12:00 -How about this for teamwork, mate? -Here we go.
12:04 Oh, yeah!
12:06 Here we go. Look at that.
12:10 Right, off this comes. There we go. Look at that.
12:15 Our pump is never going to run again,
12:21 but the challenge is to get all the panels off without damaging them.
12:24 A lot of the screws are rusted solid,
12:28 so the best way to remove them is with my latest purchase, an impact driver.
12:33 Here we go, then. My first ever attempt.
12:36 The hammer blow should loosen the rust and simultaneously unfed the screw.
12:44 In theory.
12:46 That doesn't work, does it?
12:49 In the end, we have to drill out the offending screws.
12:52 Fantastico.
12:55 The underside gets the same treatment.
12:59 Until finally, off comes the side panel.
13:03 As ever with these, it's never as simple as you think.
13:06 No, I know.
13:07 Half an hour later, the last panel's removed.
13:10 -That's the one. -There you go.
13:14 OK, so, all the panels are there ready to go for blasting.
13:18 We've got to polish this beading here, haven't we?
13:22 And we'll clean everything up and get the lights working.
13:26 But basically, we've had a good day, haven't we?
13:29 Yeah, very good.
13:31 Next morning, it's all hands to the pump.
13:34 Guy starts on the chrome trim.
13:36 They look really mucky, but because it's chrome,
13:39 it should polish up fairly easily.
13:41 Down at the shop blasters,
13:45 Daz gets into his protective clothing to strip the panels,
13:49 while Guy carries on with the polishing.
13:52 Now, obviously, you start with the heavier grades
13:56 and you gradually get to the heavier grades.
13:59 Now, the important thing is,
14:00 when you're using, say, your first heavy grade,
14:03 if you're going at this angle,
14:05 you keep it all in the same direction and keep it moving
14:07 so you don't put bad score marks in it.
14:10 And then when you go to the next lighter grade,
14:12 you keep going till you've removed the marks
14:14 that were in the other angle.
14:16 I, meanwhile, clean our Jaguar Daimler sign.
14:22 I just use furniture polish just along the top there.
14:26 Furniture polish just along the top there, like that.
14:30 The great thing about the furniture polish is it's benign.
14:34 So you can spray it on as much as you fancy
14:37 and it's not going to harm whatever you're cleaning.
14:41 So that's coming up all right, isn't it?
14:43 A little bit of dust.
14:44 Gone.
14:46 Hey, shall we see if it works?
14:48 All right, you ready for this?
14:50 Here we go.
14:51 Yes!
14:54 Oh, yeah.
14:56 Hey, what do you reckon on that?
14:58 Oh, that's actually really nice.
15:00 Down at the blasters, Daz is now stripping the panels.
15:06 Luckily, there's minimal rust.
15:08 While back outside, Skid moves on to the hose.
15:13 First, he polishes the nozzle on the cleaning mop.
15:17 And then he cleans the hose itself.
15:19 The best way to do this is just spray some penetrating oil on it
15:24 and it'll give it a shine.
15:25 It does dry out, so occasionally you have to redo it.
15:28 But it's just really to get the dust off.
15:31 Next morning, Fuzz is back with our freshly painted panels.
15:36 The better we can get our pump looking, the more it'll be worth.
15:40 Now, morning from the shed, three old men and a dog.
15:43 One with tea, as always. One with an angle grinder, as always.
15:46 That's right.
15:47 First things first,
15:50 while Fuzz grinds down the pedestal prior to painting.
15:54 We've got an uneven surface here, loads of layers of paint.
15:58 So we may as well get it all uniform, really, I reckon.
16:01 I add some patina to my brand new boiler suit.
16:06 No, no, it's me, I'm being attacked.
16:09 Then, once Guy has blown off all the dust with an airline,
16:14 Fuzz sprays on a primer,
16:16 while Guy deals with a nasty old sticker on the glass.
16:20 Henry wants this sticker off
16:21 because we're going to put a nice frosted trim here
16:23 and another sticker, so this one's in the way.
16:26 And the best way to get this off is with a heat gun.
16:29 Heat it up and that loosens the glue.
16:31 There's one coat to start with.
16:35 Go around, then we can always return to the start again.
16:39 And I play a strategic role.
16:42 Fuzz, that's lovely.
16:45 Well, you know, I'm just trying to realise your vision there.
16:48 Don't blame me.
16:53 Then, after a quick lunch, we start on the big reassembly.
16:57 OK, so the first thing you should do when you're restoring something
17:00 is take photos of it while you're discombobulating it.
17:03 Guy, where are the photos?
17:05 My battery was flat on my phone. I thought you'd done it.
17:08 -I wasn't here. -Yeah, I'm not blaming you.
17:12 Bean? Bean, where are the photos?
17:15 What follows is a demonstration
17:19 of why we should have taken photos in the first place.
17:23 -You all right there, Henry? -No, not really.
17:25 I think this has got to go on first because we're never going to get those in.
17:28 Though we know where everything goes,
17:31 getting it in the right order is a bit more challenging.
17:34 Which screws were we using?
17:37 That go on top of there?
17:38 Daz did a great job,
17:45 but the blasting and painting has created a few issues.
17:49 When your powder coating got hot...
17:52 The heat actually bends stuff.
17:55 So, consequently, here we've got a crease there.
17:59 Yeah, that's right.
18:00 Which I don't think we can do too much about.
18:02 -But if we're gentle... -Are you bending it in?
18:04 I am bending it in, yeah.
18:07 OK, well, if you're gentle that side, I'll try gentle my side when you're ready.
18:11 There should be a little clip that that goes into,
18:16 but that only stops that opening that way.
18:20 Gradually, it all comes together.
18:22 Panels, trim and accessories.
18:24 And for every problem, there's usually a high-tech solution.
18:28 With this, as you can see, there's a rather nasty gaping hole here
18:31 around this beautifully restored sight gauge.
18:34 So, I'm just going to make an aluminium plate to go over this,
18:38 for which cardboard-aided design.
18:41 On goes one more sticker.
18:47 Maybe a little to the left.
18:50 And then we get ready for our very own Blackpool illuminations.
18:54 That's it. Yay!
18:57 Now, I'll tell you what, right, I think that's worth 1,100 quid.
19:05 Now, considering the powder coat was 200, the pump was 400,
19:10 we've had a few stickers and a few polishings and all that kind of stuff,
19:13 so call that 50 quid.
19:15 So, what's that? Four, six...
19:17 Well, I mean, if we got 1,100 quid, we're doubling our money.
19:20 -Yeah, fabulous. -It could be nice.
19:22 So, let's hope, cross fingers, tomorrow we get a result.
19:26 Next morning...
19:30 So, that goes on there.
19:32 Guy converts his cardboard-aided design
19:36 into a cutting-edge metal sticking plaster.
19:39 There's a nice, neat 70mm hole.
19:42 There we go, look, that's perfect.
19:44 Now, what I've got to do is mark the outer on here and then cut it out.
19:49 That looks great.
19:55 And then, just in the nick, our punter arrives.
20:00 Karen's a friend, whose husband is a complete petrolhead.
20:05 Now, it's not your normal petrol...
20:09 -Guy, have you met Guy, Karen? -Hi, there.
20:11 Hi, nice to meet you, Guy.
20:12 It's not the normal petrol pump that Paul would assume...
20:16 -It's really nice. -...he's going to get for his birthday,
20:18 but I think it's quite cool, don't you?
20:20 Really cool, no, he'd love that. Really like that.
20:23 -You're being sarcastic. -No, no, actually, he'd love it.
20:25 -Really? -Yeah.
20:26 He's got a man cave and he likes things like that, so, you know...
20:30 -I think that would be... -I know what he has.
20:31 -Shall we spark it up, mate? -Yeah, the illuminations.
20:33 -Yes. -Yeah, look, I think it's...
20:35 -It actually works. -Right, you ready for this?
20:36 -Are you ready? -Ready?
20:38 The big reveal.
20:39 -Hey! -Very impressive.
20:42 -Very nice. -Is it?
20:43 -That's good. -Now, Karen, if you're happy with that,
20:45 -let's talk money. -OK.
20:47 -£1,100. -No.
20:50 A thousand?
20:52 Come on, Henry, I know you.
20:54 -A thousand. -Come on.
20:57 I'd shake hands at that.
20:58 -I'm a good customer. -Always reluctant, look.
21:01 -Oh, sorry. -I did, I nearly spilt my tea.
21:03 -OK, you sure? -Yes, 110.
21:06 -You're happy with that as well, aren't you? -Yeah, I'm happy.
21:08 -Yeah, good. -I'm happy.
21:10 -Everyone's happy. -Good home.

21:13 So we bought it for £375,
21:17 spent £200 on the powder coating
21:19 and £75 on the stickers and everything else.
21:22 So that's £650.
21:24 Hang on, that's £350 profit.
21:27 And we've still got the Red X dispenser
21:30 and we've still got the Jaguar Daimler sign.
21:33 -Yes. -Hey, I'll tell you what, I'm pumped.
