Sargassum is a yellowish-brown seaweed that originates from the Sargassum Sea in the North Atlantic.
Since 2011, tons of the seaweed have accumulated annually on coasts in the Caribbean, French Guiana, Central America, the Gulf of Mexico, Ivory Coast, Benin and Togo.
