West Ham fan Knollsy first appearance at London Stadium after incident

The West Ham fan that confronted the AZ Alkmaar hooligans this week was given a standing ovation at the London Stadium on Sunday.

Lifelong Hammer Chris Knoll, or Knollsy as he’s affectionately known, made headlines on Thursday when he was seen defending his club’s fans from the Dutch side’s ultras.

David Moyes’ team advanced to the final 3-1 on aggregate, but a night of celebration took a turn as a section of the home side’s supporters advanced towards the away end after the final whistle.

Knollsy was pictured right in the middle of the action alongside players and fellow supporters, fighting off those trying to get at the travelling fans.

Now, Knollsy, who earned a black eye for his troubles, has received a thank you from his fellow Hammers fans.

West Ham welcomed Leeds to the London Stadium on Sunday and during the match, Knollsy was pictured receiving a standing ovation from those in the stands around him.

Photos posted to social media also show he was greeted with handshakes as he made his way through to his seat.

Knollsy’s day will have been made even better by his side’s result, too.

Leeds star Rodrigo’s stunning opening goal was cancelled out by Declan Rice, before Jarrod Bowen and Manuel Lanzini scored to seal a 3-1 win for the Hammers.

The result leaves the Yorkshire side floundering in the relegation zone as the Hammers move up to 14th with one game of the season for each club left to go.
