Wales headlines 19 May: Tory councillors boycott Bannau Brycheiniog Committee

A group of Tory councillors in Powys have boycotted joining the Bannau Brycheiniog authority board in protest of the recent name change. Local councils around the national park are allotted a number of seats, but Conservative members in Powys council have decided not to be a part of it.

Four people have been taken to hospital after a house fire in Wrexham on Thursday. North Wales Fire and Rescue were called to the address just before 8pm, and have said the fire - which destroyed one bedroom and damaged the whole first floor - was accidental.

A Senedd report has claimed that Welsh language targets over the next few decades will not be possible without more welsh-speaking teachers. The welsh government has aimed for a million welsh speakers by 2050, but the most recent census data has shown a drop in the number of cymreig speakers from 562 thousand to 538 thousand.
