Netflix Lags in Ad-Supported Streaming

  • last year
Netflix is currently lagging behind its subscribers in its ad-supported tier, although it has the most extensive base of subscribers among all streaming services worldwide. In March, four months after its launch, Netflix's $6.99-a-month ad tier had 937,616 subscribers in the United States, compared to the 863,791 in Disney+'s ad-backed plan. Netflix is gearing up to attract major advertisers but faces stiff competition from rivals with longer-standing ad businesses and larger ad-watching subscriber bases. Disney-controlled Hulu had 20 million ad-tier subscribers, NBCUniversal's Peacock had 15.5 million, and Paramount+ had 10.7 million.
