Controversies around 'The Kerala Story' after its release have refused to die down. West Bengal Govt banned the movie ‘to avoid any incident of hatred and violence’.
A plea was filed by the filmmakers challenging the ban on the film in West Bengal. Now, Mamata Banerjee-led Govt issued a clarification in an affidavit to Supreme Court. Govt alleged that ‘The Kerala Story’ based on manipulated facts, contains hate speech.

WB Govt in an affidavit further stated that film can cause communal disharmony. State Govt has no power to ban a movie which has been certified for public viewing by CBFC, said Movie makers. Earlier, CM Mamata Banerjee said that the decision was taken to maintain peace in the state.

Meanwhile, several BJP-ruled states including UP and Madhya Pradesh made the film tax-free. Denouncing the movie, Kerala CM called the movie “hate propaganda” made for “communal polarization”. PM Modi had also endorsed the movie and said that the film ‘exposed the terror conspiracies’ in Kerala.

'The Kerala Story', starring Adah Sharma, was released in cinemas on May 5.
