A loving granddaughter travelled more than 6,200 miles to surprise her bed-bound grandmother after she was admitted to hospital.

Actress and musician Paula Salva, 28, made the 13 hour trip to Buenos Aires, Argentina, to visit Elvira Thurzo in her time of need.

Paula moved to Spain in April 2021 and hadn't been able to travel home since December 2022.

Sweet video shows Elvira, 82, in complete shock when Paula entered her hospital room to surprise her.

Paula, from Madrid, Spain, said: "I couldn't travel because of money and work.

"I tried to book a ticket home during the last holiday season, but I couldn't make my family pay so much for the tickets."

Elvira has been suffering from hip issues which have left her bed-bound for the last year.

In March, her stitches from a hip operation became infected and Elvira was hospitalised for a month.

Paula jumped on a plane to Buenos Aires on April 2 and went straight to Clinica Avellanada Medical Center as soon as she landed.

She organised the surprise with her parents without telling the rest of the family.

So it came as a complete shock to all when she arrived at the hospital.

Paula said: "I hadn't told anyone else in my family they were all just as surprised as my grandmother."

The reunion was very emotional as Paula didn't know if this would be her last chance to see her grandmother.

She added: "I travelled for her. My family said she was weak and I didn't know if it would be the last time I would see her.

"Seeing her was the first thing I did. I think you can see my suitcases in the video.

"The truth is that it broke my heart to see her like that. Until she started getting the operations she had been working.

"She had no idea what was going on at the beginning. She had no idea she would see me.

"You can see the moment it clicks in her eyes and she starts crying from joy.

"She's back at home now, but she's struggling to stay motivated to get working again.

"I think this situation has served as a lesson to all of us that we need to look after her better and send her a few more messages checking up on her."
