A stray bullet landed metres away from a group of kids playing a youth baseball game.

Surveillance video, released by the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office, shows the moment the bullet hit the dirt in between the young players.

The incident happened at the Mission Sports Park in San Marcos, California, USA.

Local deputies responded to reports of persons unknown discharging a firearm near the sports park, but confirmed no one had been shot or hurt.

Police are seeking the public’s help and asking anyone with information or additional video of the incident to come forward.

San Diego County Sheriff's Department said: "Detectives from the San Marcos Sheriff's Station and San Diego County Crime Stoppers want your help in finding out who was responsible for a shooting near a sports park.

"It happened on Monday, May 8 just before 8:00 p.m, near Mission Sports Park, located in the 900 block of Bailey Court, in San Marcos.

"Deputies from the San Marcos Sheriff's Station responded to the scene after getting reports of someone discharging a firearm near the park.

"Deputies searched the area, but didn't find anyone who had been shot or was hurt.

"Surveillance video from one of the baseball fields at the park captured audio of what sounded like gunfire, as well as some kind of projectile hitting the field."
