20 Years Later: Stephen J. Hadley on the Iraq Invasion

The country's journey toward peace and democracy is still fraught with danger twenty years after the American invasion of Iraq. Iraq has faced numerous challenges during the past 20 years, including insurgencies, the Islamic State, political impasse, Iranian intervention, and economic difficulties. Despite this, Iraq has maintained its unity, and its history is still being written. Former USIP Board of Directors chair Stephen J. Hadley, who served as President George W. Bush's national security adviser, looks back on the invasion of Iraq twenty years later. Hadley addresses why he thinks the invasion was "a war of last resort" in an interview with USIP President and CEO Lise Grande.
