President Biden Considers 14th Amendment To Avoid Debt Default

President Biden says he is exploring the option of invoking the 14th amendment as a way to work around the debt ceiling standoff he currently finds himself in with House Republicans.The amendment states that the public debt of the United States “shall not be questioned.”  Axios notes that the underlying theory claims the federal government is constitutionally required to pay its debts, overriding the debt limit.
