Storyline: Harmony reigns in the family life of Kate and Larry, a theater critic for a large New York newspaper, even though the two spouses have to deal with four very lively children every day. Things start to go wrong when the ruthless sincerity of Larry's criticism provokes violent reactions. Even the impresario North, who was his friend, begins to oppose him in every way. Larry's courageous attitude in the face of ostracism, however, increases his fame and he becomes absorbed in worldly life. His wife Kate, tired of city life, decides to go and live in the countryside, in an old house that she has renovated. After some arguments, Larry, instead of returning home, stays in a hotel in the city. Kate asks North for a play to stage for a charity event, and the impresario, to get revenge on Larry, sends her one of her youthful plays, which was unsuccessful. Larry protests: instead the new version of the comedy gets a lot of applause. Kate then decides to make peace because she wants her husband to come home. Meanwhile, Larry, tired of the loneliness, is also returning: the two meet in the elevator.
