Taiwan, officially known as the Republic of China, is an island nation located in East Asia. It is situated in the western Pacific Ocean and shares maritime borders with Japan to the north, the Philippines to the south, and China to the west.
Taiwan has a population of approximately 23.6 million people, with its capital city Taipei being home to over 2.7 million residents. The official languages spoken in Taiwan are Mandarin Chinese and Taiwanese Hokkien, with English being widely spoken as well.
Taiwan is known for its high-tech industries, including semiconductor manufacturing, computer hardware, and electronics. It is also a major producer of agricultural products such as tea, fruits, and vegetables.
In terms of tourism, Taiwan offers visitors a rich blend of cultural, historical, and natural attractions. Some popular destinations include Taipei 101, Sun Moon Lake, Taroko Gorge, and the National Palace Museum.
Politically, Taiwan has a unique status, as it is not recognized as a sovereign state by many countries, including China. However, it operates as a democratic nation with its own government and military. The relationship between Taiwan and China is complex and often contentious, with both sides claiming to be the legitimate government of all of China.
