Manchester’s up-and-coming neighbourhood Ancoats

  • last year
Ancoats is an area of Manchester close to the Northern Quarter in Manchester City Centre. It is known for its eclectic food and drink scene, Grade II listed building Hallé St Peters and Ancoats Marina.

The area is considered an up-and-coming place in the city-region, and as the site for many new development houses and canal-side apartments, it's a much sought-after location for those looking to move to the city centre.

There is a Co-op Academy Primary School and streets full of restaurants ranging from Michelin Star Mana, to pubs and street food establishments.

Ancoats is where many young people call home, so there's no surprise there are a variety of bars around to cater to residents. We took a look at one of teh most famous Manchester-born breweries Seven Bro7hers and spoke to one of the brothers about setting up shop in such an integral part of Manchester City Centre.

While many young people are in the area, Ancoats is also home to families, some of which have children who attend the nearby Co-op Academy New Islington. We spoke to people from local Community Group Trees Not Cars about their life in Ancoats and their concerns over council plans to turn an old retail park site into more office blocks.
