Sadiq Khan is celebrating hitting a landmark council housing target, as figures show London is building double the amount of council homes as the rest of England combined.

In 2018, the mayor had set himself a goal to build 10,000 new council homes by 2022, but having achieved this he doubled his target to 20,000 new council homes by 2024.

He now claims to have reached that figure a year early with 23,000 council homes started across London over the last five years.
