From may 2023 there's a new a law that means that you will have to show photo ID before you can vote in many future elections

You will need it for UK parliamentary and police and crime commissioners elections but in Wales people will note need it for Sened and local government elections in Wales or local parliamentary votes in Scotland.

Acceptable forms of ID include: Passport, Blue Badge, Driving Licence or Older Persons Bus Pass.

If you don't have photo ID you can apply by post or online for a Voter Authority Certificate, a free document that can be used just for voting.

Voters will only need to produce one form of photographic ID, and it need not be current as long as it is recognisable as the person at the ballot box. However, the ID must be an original document, and the name on the ID must match the name on the electoral register.
