US Evacuates , Embassy in Sudan , as Fighting Continues.
On April 23, U.S. special forces
evacuated the American embassy in
the war-torn Sudanese capital of Khartoum.
Politico reports that the sweeping
evacuation was carried out with helicopters
on the ground for less than an hour.
With no shots fired or reported
casualties, the U.S. said it will close down
the embassy in Khartoum indefinitely.
Politico reports that thousands of private U.S. citizens
remain in the east African country, where the battle for
power between two rival commanders enters its ninth day.
The fighting has forced Sudan's main international
airport to remain closed and put roads out of
the country in the control of armed soldiers.

400 people have been
killed since the fighting began.
U.S. President Joe Biden said that
Americans remaining in Sudan will be helped , "to the extent possible.".
This tragic violence in Sudan
has already cost the lives of
hundreds of innocent civilians.
