Amanda Bynes leaves mental hospital 3 weeks after admitting herself following psychotic episode

Amanda Bynes has been released from a California mental hospital after being admitted last month when she was found naked and roaming around the streets of downtown Los Angeles.

Sources told TMZ that both Bynes and medical staff determined she was ready to leave the facility and begin outpatient treatment on Monday.

Bynes will reportedly return to her home in Southern California, and will work with doctors and specialists to make sure she stays on a healthy path moving forward.

The 37-year-old actress had been living on her own prior to the incident and hopes to return to the independence she gained after her 9 years spent in conservatorship.

In 2013, her parents filed for control over her affairs after a previous mental health-related hospitalization stemming from an incident where she started a fire in a stranger’s driveway in Thousand Oaks, Calif.

The latest incident appears to be an anomaly, TMZ reported last month. Sources close to her parents, Rick and Lynn Bynes, said that although the two are “deeply concerned” for their daughter, another conservatorship “isn’t on the table.”

The Nickelodeon star had apparently been doing fairly well living on her own and was taking cosmetology classes in the lead-up to the incident.

Reports from the March episode were that Bynes had flagged down a car and told the driver she was coming down from a psychotic episode, before calling 911 herself and seeking help.

She was placed on a 72-hour psychiatric hold, which was later extended as she worked with doctors and other specialists to get her back to a healthy state.
