Russia has tested a “new intercontinental ballistic missile”, in the first known successful launch of such a weapon since Russia suspended its participation in the last nuclear arms reduction treaty with the United States.

In a statement on Telegram on Wednesday, 12 April, the country’s defence ministry said the missile was test launched at Kapustin Yar, a rocket launch complex in Astrakhan Oblast, and “engaged a target” at the Sary Shagan firing range in Kazakhstan.

According to reports, the missile is capable of travelling over 1,000 miles.
