Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen and her Guatemalan counterpart, Alejandro Giammattei, reaffirmed their ties during Tsai’s three-day trip to the Central American country. The visit came after Honduras severed diplomatic relations with Taipei to establish formal ties with Beijing, which does not allow countries to recognise both China and Taiwan. Guatemala is among Taiwan’s 13 remaining allies in the world, mostly small nations in the Caribbean, the Pacific and Latin America.
