Gold Strike River (1934) John Wayne, Barbara Sheldon, Full Western Movie
  • last year
“Gold Strike River” is a wonderful mix of the Old West, comedy, action and a bit of romance to boot. Jerry Mason (John Wayne) is a youthful Texan and George “Gabby” Hayes plays Jake Benson, a rancher who Jerry calls “Old Timer.” They become partners after striking it rich when they find gold in a nearby creek. Jake’s granddaughter Betty (Barbara Sheldon) returns from college and she and Jerry fall for each other. However, two unscrupulous businessmen want Jake’s ranch, not to mention his gold, and must be dealt with before things get out of hand.

The movie features wonderful action scenes and Wayne chasing the bad guys on his horse. The scene in which Jake shows up in court in drag, pretending to be a female relative, has to be seen to be appreciated. We are pleased to award “Gold Strike River” our Dove “Family-Approved” Seal for ages twelve plus. Watching “Gold Strike River” is like finding a gold nugget. It’s a treasure.
