State & Federal Appellate Courts | The Appeal Process
  • last year
State and federal appellate courts are the higher courts in the judicial system that hear appeals from lower courts. State appellate courts hear appeals from trial courts within the state's jurisdiction, while federal appellate courts hear appeals from federal district courts and certain specialized courts. Both state and federal appellate courts have a panel of judges who review the lower court's decision, examine the legal arguments presented by the parties, and determine whether any errors or mistakes were made. Appellate courts do not conduct new trials or hear new evidence, but rather review the record of the lower court proceedings to make their decision.
