UNHRC: China accussed of ‘discrimination’ against Tibetans, Uighurs
  • last year
China yet again stood on the dock at the UNHRC in Switzerland’s Geneva as European Foundation for South Asian Studies research analyst Aaron Magunna on March 24 brought up the ‘discrimination’ going on against the Tibetans and Uighurs by China. Aaron further alleged the country of ‘repressing’ the regions as it is also trying to ‘destroy’ the native cultures of the places.

“The report notes that Tibetan children are routinely separated from their families and sent to residential schools. These schools are part of a broader policy that seeks to Sinicize the Tibetan population, eroding its unique religious, linguistic, and cultural identity,” Magunna said.

“A 2022 UN report has noted serious human rights violations against the Uighurs population, including forced labor, systemic sexual violence, and eugenics programs. In Xinjiang, cultural destruction is a defining part of the modus operandi of state institutions,” he added.

The allegations were made during the 52nd Session of the UNHRC in Geneva.
