Ever wondered how brakes are applied in trains?
Indian Railways system works on Air brakes. In the Air Brake system compressed air is used for operating the brake system. Throughout the length of the train, the locomotive compressor charges the brake pipes and feed pipes. By means of the distributor valve, the feed pipe is connected to the auxiliary reservoir and the brake pipe is connected to the brake cylinder. Brake application takes place by dropping the pressure in the brake pipe.
