नवरात्र के दूसरे दिन मां दुर्गा के ‘देवी ब्रह्मचारिणी’ रूप की पूजा करने का विधान है। मां ब्रह्मचारिणी के दाएं हाथ में माला और बाएं हाथ में कमण्डल है। शास्त्रों में बताया गया है कि मां दुर्गा ने पार्वती के रूप में पर्वतराज के यहां पुत्री बनकर जन्म लिया और महर्षि नारद के कहने पर अपने जीवन में भगवान महादेव को पति के रूप में पाने के लिए कठोर तपस्या की थी।

Brahmacharini (ब्रह्मचारिणी) means a devoted female student who lives in an Ashrama with her Guru along with other students. She is the second aspect of the Navadurga forms of Mahadevi and is worshipped on the second day of Navaratri (the nine divine nights of Navadurga).
