Glasgow headlines 14 March: Anti-abortion protest met with counter campaign

  • last year
Hundreds of people gathered outside a sexual health clinic in Glasgow to counter protest anti-abortion campaigners.

A small group from the Scottish Family Party initially gathered outside Argyle Street’s Sandyford clinic, where leader Richard Lucas said he wanted to brick up its entrance using cardboard boxes.

A larger opposing group developed with police keeping the two apart.

Next up, Mortons Rolls has issued redundancy notices to a number of staff, saying they should regard their service as terminated.

The Drumchapel bakery recently closed down after 58 years in business, and it is currently unknown how many workers are affected.

And in other news, the organisers behind Glasgow’s Celtic Connections festival and TRNSMT have condemned government proposals to ban alcohol advertising, saying it would damage the industry’s success.

All three SNP leadership candidates signalled a rethink on proposals, which was aimed at tackling the high levels of alcoholism in Scotland.
